Anyone interested in a very good slow-start 5Y3GT type rectifier. May want to keep an eye on this. I feel GE and Raytheon are the two best WGT, 6087 types.

[not related to brother.... oops! I mean seller].

Art, congrats! To me, those are some of the very best rectifiers made. I believe they cost the US taxpayer nearly $5 each, back in the 1950-60's (the Bendix 6016 was closer to $25 each). When the lowly 5Y3GT was 25-50¢ each.

Best thing is they are slow-warmup tubes. Copper rod puppies that last three 5Y3GT lifetimes. And the run-of-the-mill 1950's GE or RCA 5Y3GT only lasted, like 50 years. :D

I find the 6087 really makes the bass stout and has better transient respsonse than RCA or GE 5Y3GT. Esp in Class "A" amps (like the Champ) --- whose output tube is nearly "on" all the time.

BTW... GE-5Stars are usually ex-mil spec tubes repackaged and labeled for consumer use. Their 5751 5-Star TMBP are considered one of the best 12AX7-type tubes.

8^)

+1

These were tubes that failed to pass DoD muster for one reason or another -- usually there was nothing actually wrong with the tube (often they were rejected merely because the exterior markings were incorrectly positioned on the glass envelope). GE would then recoup their losses by re-packaging them and offering them commercially. Most vacuum-tube companies did the same with their unsold military-contract inventories.
