Black plate TungSol 1950's 7408. Clear glass, D-shaped getter ringer. Still get get good ones, if you are patient. Similar to the 6V6GTA.

Yeah man,
The power-beam-er.

I can see why you use them...

To get the most out of your amp the 7408 & 6V6GTA
both put out the 14 watts each. They also have a dual getter.

The 6V6GT is only a 12 watt tube, a single getter.
For some readers who may not know this tip, always look at the pins of the "NOS" tubes your buying on ebay. So many sellers will use the tubes until they are 1/2 used and then sell them as NOS. A real NOS tube will have minty clean pins like these tubes.

My bedroom stash of 6V6GTA tubes.

Tubes that are used will have markings on the pins from both current-cooking and pin-wear from in and out all the time.

Here is a single tube on ebay with a BIN for 120.00, you can clearly see the pins have wear. It takes a long time to make burn wear on tubes, it does not happen from just testing.
Just because the seller has the original box, does not make it NOS. Always, always ask to see a close-up of the Pins on the tubes, all tubes.

High end HiFi companies like Harman Kardon used the 7408 tubes in the amps, they even put their names on the tubes (private label).

And my favorite rectifiers are the 6087 in place of the 5Y3GT.
GE makes a nice blackplate 5-star 6087.

I have a Hickok 539C from 1968 and I bought it from a college university that never used it. I was testing tubes in the last days, I will take a pic and post it.

I believe in the old stock tubes. They never lose their power.

The best 6V6GT IMHO. The Bendix Red Bank 5992. Made to take 100G & designed for the ICBM missile of the 1950's. Tone is AMAZING. And the life expectancy is great.

One more desired 6V6GT to look for. Smoked-glass 1940-50's Ken-Rad 6V6GT. Made in same very famous Owensboro, KY factory that many of the GE "STR's" came out of.

I have some pulls that test 5-20mA above new made tubes. NOTE: the chrome flashing at the bottom? Characteristic of this tube.

You know Beemer, after running the Marconi 6V6 GTY's in the Bassman, for a couple of months. I'd have to say after a two week break-in (30hrs), they have settled into a very balanced sonic spot. Very akin to 5881 Tungsols. If they meltdown, I'll be really bummed ! But for now, they really tamed the amp, and brought it into a sweet realm. Do you have any experience with these Canadian tubes? Hey Stratele, What's your opinion on the Marconi tubes? Art

I've used GE Canadian-made 6V6GTY in my VC for awhile. Really, a nice tube.
