Todays jam amp is my 1965 Deluxe Reverb with Celestion Gold. I'm the 2nd owner on this amp, came with the original bill of sale 239.95 from San Antonio, Tx Music Shop. Came with the original ship box, vic cover, F/S, paper envelope w/schematic was still stapled to the inside cab, all original tubes etc. This was also a S.O. Special Order amp.
Nickel Plated Chassis, filter cap cover, tube socket covers

You can see the clean shine on the cloth, no Cigg Smoke.

Image
This back faceplate has the 1 Amp silk-screened on the plate and
Fender placed a small "2" sticker over the "1" on the plate.
Most of these have been lost over the years.
When you see an amp with the "2" sticker still on the amp w/the 200 watt sticker,
chances are the amp was well cared for.
Image
The stain on the inside cab is still like new from
always being covered and stored in the box.

Bottom clean from being covered.

I left all the original tubes in the amp except the 2 12AT7
were replaced with the Mullard Mullard CV4024 from
1984 Blackburn, these are the best PI tubes. BnB Tubes on
ebay sells em for 28.00 each.
If you want to get the best out of your amps, use this 12AT7 in the phase inverter socket.
I use them in the reverb driver (V3) also. They are way better than the Telefunken IMO.

The reverb tank bag is clean like new from always being covered.

The original Oxford is in the Celestion Gold Box for
safekeeping. Has the original F-Plug wiring harness.
I always make a new harness for speaker replacement.

The old Jensen C12NA is another favorite speaker swap
in my Deluxe Reverb amps.

Being a mid-year model, it's likely one of the last '65s to wear the FEIC face plate.

Nice specimen, paper.

My '65 PR also has the nickel-plated chassis. But I don't think it's an "SO" from what I can tell.

You are right , I think it was standard Fender production. Only great quality at this time.

Very nice amp Rebelsoul, when your amp is on stage everyone knows it's the real deal. When they see mine they think they are reissues.

I been playing collecting for a long time,
over the years I learned to just wait for the
best amps, guitars. I try to collect amps
with no Cigg Smoke history. The cloth is one
of the most studied parts when the rest
of the amp looks clean. Original tubes also.

I have 2 of the No-Numbered Deluxe Reverbs, the 1964
faceplate that has no 1 & 2 printed over the input jacks.
The 1964 was 10.00 cheaper.
I believe they sold the amps for suggested retail back then, when the 1.00 was 1.00. The Epiphone Casino is like the John Lennon Casino.

Hey Reb, look closely at your amp's rear panel and check out that typo on the corporate information that reads "COLOMBIA".

Shooo.... here's a little secret (well, not so little anymore). If you like the tone of the Mullard (or Brimar CV4024) as a long-tailed phase inverter. And want a tad less gain... the 7316, 7318, and 5418A are great tubes.

And CBS-Hytron black plates are the very best. The bass and slow onset of OD will astound you --- versus the 12AT7 (CV4024) type tube. I use them in every Ampeg that takes a 12AU7A in the PI. Haven't had a complaint, yet. Keep your eyes out for good CBS or Sylvania JAN-JHS pulls.

It's a home-made concoction that I call the "Spankmaster Reverb". I've built and sold several of them over the years, all of them based on the Deluxe Reverb platform. The drip-edge silverface version shown above started life as a '78, purchased on Ebay as an orphaned chassis. The cab is 20" tall and contains a 15-inch JBL D130F.

This one was the prototype......

Image

In this case a '94 DRRI chassis, dressed in late '63 blonde/wheatstraw cosmetics. Completing the "illusion" is an FEIC face plate, a full set of snowman knobs, and a pair of "PATENT PENDING" tilt-back legs with a stamped serial number. It's also driving a D130F.

The Sylvania tubes almost always are the strongest test results of all the tube manufactures. If you have tested tubes before you know what I mean. They last forever. A Telefunken 12AX7 may test 1250-1600 and the Sylvania 12AX7 long plate will test 1600-2500. They really made some of the best tubes and are often overlooked because people fight over the RCA's.

Here are some of the JHS tubes you wrote about,
