What we have here is a very old Filipino Pirate amp head. This one is from the Gabby company, they were known for their Fender and Vox bootleg amplification gear in the late 1960s into the early 1970s. The tolex covering isn't original to the amp, these were all black and had a handle and 2 metal stack/bumper bars on each side of the top. These sell for super cheap on ebay in original condition so I wouldn't waste the money having it fixed by an amp tech. Would be much cheaper to ask around on a tech forum to see if they can come up with a similar resistor for you to install yourself.

Welcome to the forum EL84! Absolutely valid info. What the Philippine knockoff companies did was get a copy of the Fender catalog and carefully copy cosmetic details. They did it all the time. They only had the photo and no idea what the inside of the amp looked like. They may not have even known it was supposed to be solid state. They didn't ever build any solid state amps that I have seen. They never had the real merchandise to copy, only photos to go by. They made guitars, basses and amps. They sold lots of them to servicemen who thought they were real Fender and the soldiers brought them home or shipped them home. This was a fairly large operation. In black Tolex this amp would have looked to a GI just like the Fenders back home. They thought they were getting a huge bargain and who could resist?

Gibson, Fender and Vox branded knockoffs from there used to pop up all the time but in the past 20 years with less frequency. There was another company there that used the Fender logo but spelled it "FINDER" and actually some of their amps were pretty good for garage band level stuff but almost without exception the instruments themselves were absolute junk. The Japanese stuff was far better. But I still bet that somewhere there is some nut that collects this stuff! The USA parts were commonly found in their amps along with Japanese. I heard that Fender actually got a lawyer and sued them but I don't know what came of it.

Why can't I find anything online about gabby fender amps?
I have seen a cuple gabby amps and they look very simular to this one untill you look inside. I have found nothing online about it other than this thred.
I'm not saying it's wrong because it very well could be made by gabby. One of the music shops I took it to has a gabby on display. It looks very simular to this one but very different inside and it's samped gabby on the back.

Hey all. I received an amp just like this one as a gift. It has a sprague multi-section cap, rubycon caps. It had hitachi pre amp and power tubes. The amp sounds great! This guy saying its not worth much?! Heavy transformers, point to point, quality parts and workmanship! Have someone build this for you and see how much they'd charge. I believe the circuit is design after a reverb deluxe and/or a bassman. My amp actually has an etched serial number. Maybe mine is different from yours. Perhaps my internals look different? Post some pictures! If anyone has more info chime in!

Just another drive-by provocateur responding to a phantom thread.

Pay it no mind.
