Hey all its been awhile but I need some sound advice. I am trying to decide on a Fender amp. I play electric blues Eric Clapton , Joe Bonamassa, Buddy Guy are some of my favs. I am interested in the sound more than the money. I frequently use a boost to drive the front of an amp for better sustain at lower volumes. I would like to know the differences between these two amps sound wise. Should I look for a early princeton reverb. BT

The Bassman when driven will provide more growl, especially when using both channels simultaneously. As well, it has a skosh more power available. The PR is a nice amp but it's really not in the same league, sonically. It's 6V6-fired output stage will not deliver the same "beef" that 6L6's are known for. Not that there's anything wrong with the Princeton, or a Bandmaster (I have several of both).

Curiously, my herd lacks a Bassman. Hmm......

I just had the recent luck to pick up both of these amps, Arjay has it right with the growl of the bassman compared to the bandmaster. I like the tone of both so far, if i were to play a more mellow gig, where i didn't need a lot of drive, I'd use the bandmaster. If we were going to play a show where it rocked a bit more, I'd use the bassman. Haven't had the pleasure yet in a gig situation, ans i only picked them up 2 weeks ago, but that is my impression so far.

As long as you keep that line of credit open for the "Missuz" at the shoe outlet. You'll be ok.

I have a 68 Bandmaster Reverb and Had a super reverb and a couple of Blackface Bassmans.

To be honest The clean of the bandmaster is at least to me a better platform for the artist list you are interested in, bold powerful low end is where its at for me !

Yep I sold the Super reverb and for what its worth, i don't miss it, The Bandmaster does it for me and the S/R seemed redundant.

I use the route 66 comp and a Cmatmods signa drive in front of the Bandmaster to add some snarl (Comp cranked the OD pedal just barely on) and I can get Clapton to a tee and to get SRV I just adjust the gain up a touch on the OD and its all there !
