Paper that 66 Twin Reverb looks museum quality, but personally it's your Tweed Twin with the Celestions makes me want to melt!!
Curious what tubes are you using?[/quote

Thanks for the post,

Not to get 'too' Poindexter I will share a little detail.

The Twin Reverb JBL BF is part of my private collection, the Tweed Twin amps are my playing amps, on 1 amp I use an old 1961 Reverb Unit while both are hooked up to a rack system.

The tubes I like are the RCA JRC5751WI in V1, 1965 era Mullard 12AX7A in V2, V3, and the Tung Sol 5881 and a dual getter Mullard GZ34 rectifier. The Celestion Gold ALNiCo speakers are the best speakers I have ever used. The amps are very quiet at idle. The old Jensen P12N are toys compared to the Golds. This amp will blow the Jensens no problem. You can dime the Golds and they will sing all night. I have fans that cool the back of the amps and racks. I have the new Crown IT12000HD amps for the sound. I have Hobbs hour meters on the amps to keep track of the total time, it's good for keeping track of the hours on the tubes.

I run 2 of them at the same time A/B/Y and one has the 5751 in V1 and the 2nd has a 6072A in V1, The gain is 44% on the 6072 and 70% on the 5751.

The Western Electric Triad output transformer is the best quality ever made in a Fender Amp. The plates are 2-3/4" wide and the Bassman is 1-3/8" wide. That's a lot of iron.

After Googling, those look like some weird $@! amps.

Trust me, they were.

Tragically (for those hapless souls foolish enough to buy them) many of the Zodiac's went into meltdown mode shortly after they were purchased. Which is why so few of them are seen anymore.

Wasn't that part of the Great CBS Solid State Experiment?

Actually it was Solid State Experiment "Redux".

I wouldn't exactly term the Zodiacs as "second generation" but it was the second time at bat with transistors for CBS's engineering stooges.

If you like the tone of the 5751 (and who doesn't?)--- the best 5751 (read: "Stupid/Rare" $$$$$ or whatever) is the windmill getter black plate Raytheon 5751. This is the Cadillac of 5751's. Has a nice big, high headroom tone of a good 12AX7. Very clean and quiet. Powerful. As good as the 1980's Tungsrams ECC83, in terms of BIG tone.

Keep your eyes open. Toshiba & Matsushita made 7025, 12AX7A, and 5751 for Raytheon (using Raytheon mil spec tooling) in the late 1960's throught the early 1980's. These are all very good tubes.

Windmill getter Raytheon 5751:

Toshiba made Raytheon labeled BP 12AX7A:

Matsushita (Panasonic) made 7025:

5751 lineup. All US made 1950-60's issues. Triple and dual mica versions. Note the GERMANY labeled Philips tube (second from right), is a relabeled TungSol. Western Europe never made any true 5751.

OK Beemer, I got a few 5751's. What's your opinion? Amperex, RCA 60's iteration, and RCA Command. Used to be a big fan of these tubes, but now only use one in the second slot in the Bassman's bass channel. Art

Any specific reason you put them there? I haven't played around with the 2nd slot so I'm curious

The Bassman's V2 is a third pre-amp gain stage (in the older 6G6 variants both halves of this tube are cascaded together to provide a third and fourth gain stage) and the mellower 5751 often acts as a limiter to smooth out the incoming transient voltage, thus enriching the harmonic content of the signal.
