Very nice Dual Showman & Cab.

Does the Cab have the D130F or D140F Speakers?

Look at this old Jimmy Hendrix Video in Newport, RI back in 1969 at Freebody Park, he has so many Dual Showmans with the JBL Cabs, The local Music Store (Traders Cove) was a Fender Dealer and did not stock Marshalls, so this is some rare footage with Jimmy and the Dual Showmans.

This is the very small sports park where Jimmy played, it's the same spot where they had the early 1962 Newport Jazz Festival that is on DVD. At the top of the field near the white building to the left is where the stage was.

I cannot imbed flash youtube vids, so you need to click to view, there are also other vids of this show but I think this one is complete.

The head is actually a Showman Amp (with the 022897 OT) from 1968.

So I installed a pair of 16-ohm D130F's in the cab, which itself dates to 1965.

Both pieces were basket cases that I restored a couple of summers ago.

AJ,

If the JBL's are in fact the D130F speakers they are 8 ohm.
All of the JBL F speakers are 8 ohm, they put the 16 ohm metal label badges on the speakers but the speakers are actually 8 ohm. You may want to put a 1/4" jack speaker wire in the speaker jack and test it with your ohms meter. I would bet the cab reads closer to 4 ohms w/the 2 speakers in there. My Dual Showman Cab has the same 16 ohm labels on them and the speakers are 8 ohm, like 6.8k each or so I remember. It won't hurt your head at all running the dual speakers, they are designed to handle the difference. Most real 16 ohm JBL D130 speakers measure about 12 ohms. It will be interesting to know what your cab reads.

Here is a price list for the 1967 Fender Amps, the Dual Showman 2x15 cab was 590.00 List in 67, that was big money back then.

I beg to differ.

The foil-cals on both are indeed marked "8 ohms".

But they're both re-cones from OC and read about 14.7 ohms DCR as measured with a DVM.

I got my first Dual Showman in 1969......I've been at this for a while.

Interesting as well is the price for the Vibratone.

It wasn't a big seller "back in the day" but they sure command the $$$ now.

I had a "model 16" version with the 10-inch speaker. The later "model 18" featured a twelve.

Arjay,

You misunderstood me,

What I was saying is the original D130/140F JBL Speakers from Fender (original cone) had some 16 ohm labels on the magnets, but the speakers are actually 8 ohm.

Most people believe the speakers are 16 ohm without checking them. You did not write your speakers were-coned at OC, so I was just telling you to check them in case you did not know.

If you would have said you reconed your speakers to 16 ohm I would have never said anything.

I was just trying to help you out.

Thanks.

But I'm beyond help.

All of the destined-for-Fender JBL D-series speaker were indeed 8 ohms with the exception of the D120F's earmarked for the solid-state 3 x 12 Bassman and Capricorn. For those applications, JBL wound a special 12-ohm coil so the parallel wiring arrangement totaled roughly 4 ohms. Later, JBL would make these peculiar speakers (and their 15-inch versions) available as a stand-alone "8-16 ohm" speaker to JBL dealers. The coils actually measured around 11 ohms.

Fender Capricorn??? Jeez you learn something new here every day don't you.

After Googling, those look like some weird $@! amps.

Paper that 66 Twin Reverb looks museum quality, but personally it's your Tweed Twin with the Celestions makes me want to melt!!
Curious what tubes are you using?

Trust me, they were.

Tragically (for those hapless souls foolish enough to buy them) many of the Zodiac's went into meltdown mode shortly after they were purchased. Which is why so few of them are seen anymore.
