Hey! Do any of you folks play a Ricky 12 string through mid-60 amps ? Wondering why some folks think a compressor is needed. I play finger style and don't strum all the strings at once. Don't use any reverb with the Ricky. I'm such a rustic player, that adding some piece of equipment in the signal chain, really bums me out. Do you guys think a compressor is really needed? Art

If my memory serves me well, I believe that Roger McGuinn used this EFX to maintain an even jingle-jangle in his playing. Early REM followed suit to keep that tone.

Thanks for the link, Beemer!!! The folks on the Ricky forum swear by the "Jangle Box". Just hate to add extra stuff. That's kind of wierd that the link mentioned the use of a Roland. The last time I saw McQuinn(4yrs ago) he was using a SF Twin Reverb. People claim he used Dual Showmans. But every time I've caught him it was Twin's. Even at the Whiskey, in Hollywood back in the '60's. Oh Well, what do I know? Still a student with this and all guitars!!! Art

I can see how a compressor by nature of the pedal could help add to the jingly nature, especially of the Ricky. If your happy with your sound, don't worry about it. I happen to be a bit of a pedal freak, so I say try it out, it may enhance the sound you already love. Keely makes a nice compressor that doesn't color the sound too much, as opposed to an orange sqyeezer. MXR dynacomp is also very nice especially the script model. I recently bought a pigtronix optical compressor, it is very quiet, and doesn't color my tone a bit, however I don't play a 12 string.
