I know this isn't a real vintage amp,but have you tried to buy a narrow panel Super lately?....most go above $6,000 that I've personally seen.
Over the last several years I've become really fond of the Fender vintage 2x10 amps, and have a 1960 Super and a '67 Vibrolux Reverb,it was only natural to want to try the Tweed version...
So,with the kits available now,I decided to try my hand at putting one together....I went with MojoTone and took a few shots while working on it.

So how does it sound?
After being really surprised when it worked, ...it sounds great!
Typical tweed mids and lows, thick sounding tone when cranked some,I really haven't pushed it hard yet,but after a couple of weeks with no trouble yet,I think she's ready to try out in a gig and see what happens next.

Thanks man!...I had some serious reservations for a good long while also, and especially when the box full of parts came in,well,it was spooky.
If you have honed your soldering skills some and just take your time and double check yourself, you will come out okay.
I learned alot from this experience and it gave me a better understanding of the components and their function.
Being safe when dealing with high voltage is a must because voltage needs to be checked at times.
It's a good experience!

Looks great Reb.

I recently bought an old japanese guitar to do some learning myself. I am going to keep the old pick-up and change out the rest of the electronics. I figure I have the example in front of me.... I just need to careful copy the original lay-out. I am a long way off from building an amp.

Reb...Now that rates a SUPER SCHWEET on the T2 Scale :!: :!: :!:

And that is the only time I have ever given out that high of a rating :!:

Great looking job you did...I am not ready to go as far as you did, but thinking of maybe doing a Tweed Champ Kit from MOJO or similar company...you have inspired me to try my hand at one this winter when the snow starts to blow.

Look forward to hearing you play this one!

T2

Excellent Reb!
Ever since I've seen these Tweed builds on the forum I've been thinking of doing the same.

Out of curiosity, what made you go with MojoTone?
Was it because it wasn't a PCB build?

Good job Reb. Amp kit building is fun isn't it? Just like me with my Weber 5F6A kit, it is amazing what you learn that you SHOULD have done first as you proceed through the build; length of wires, direction of wires, things you assemble only to learn you have to take it apart to install something else, etc. It's all part of what makes kit building a fun challenge.

I hope to be able to build another kit this Christmas, I just haven't decided what.

Thanks guys!...you learn a lot doing this and when it works it gives you a good feeling of accomplishment....I could build another one and do a neater job.
I went with MojoTone because I think they supply the cabinets for some of the other kits that places have,I may be wrong though...and the price was right,it had the fiber board and the kit used carbon comps,I substituted Mallory 150s instead of the supplied orange drops,I ordered it without speakers and tubes because I already had those.
You could build this same circuit and with a different cabinet, have a Tweed Bandmaster 3x10....pretty much also the same build different cabinet and you would have a 1x15 Tweed Pro....I might try that later.
So for around $670-$725,I have a handwired clone of a Super that would cost $1300-$2500 from a boutique dealer.....mine isn't as neat, but it sounds great,is really quiet and I know it inside out!

Very cool build, Reb!!! Like your choice of caps, tubes, and speakers. I sure know what you mean about assembling things in the best order and lead length. Glad to hear it fired up and sounds great, from the get-go!!! Art

So very cool! And real TS CTL-5881/6L6WGB's! You prolly know these take a LONG time to break-in. Can sound downright constipated, at first. But, once broken-in, with those Weber alnicos. Will be Blues Heaven!
