Hi,

I have four Jensen speakers that need to be re-coned.

Type: Ceramic
Other frame/magnet stamped codes: MI120 EM 1200 C8512-4
Cone number: 3012B16W6
Date: 1959 or 1969?
Voice Coil: ???
Power Rating: ???

-------------------

Here you have a link with a video of the speakers: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2zf8tXDryU

I'm from Uruguay and a friend will be in Indianapolis next week (9/4/12 to 9/8/12), so I'm trying to send to his hotel the replacements in order to re-cone these speakers.
I'm looking in https://taweber.powweb.com/parts.htm but I'm not sure which parts are correct for the speakers. Maybe anyone could help picking parts or suggesting other supplier?

Thank you very much for your help!!!

Andrés

The P12R is most likely from 1958, when many Jensen frames were still painted in silver lacquer. The ribbed-cone types were frequently paired with a smooth-cone version for use in console organs. Re-coned with modern materials, these speakers are generally rated for 20-25 watts.

The P12Q Concert Series with the teal-colored frame dates to 1961 and would typically be seen in many brands of guitar amps from this period. Ribbed cones are most common although smooth-cone variants may be encountered. A competently re-coned P12Q can be expected to handle 25 to 30 watts.

The green P12N Concert Series is also a 1961 model and was at that time Jensen's power-handling flagship at 50 watts. As with the "Q", both types of cone were used but for guitar amps the ribbed edition is preferred. Concert Series speakers may be seen with a "hammered" silver finish as well.

The gray (wrinkle finish?) EM1200 Vibranto was made in 1969 and was frequently installed as a warranty replacement speaker in many Fender amps between 1966 and 1971. Its power-handling specs are identical to the C12N or P12N at 50 watts and they were always equipped with the removable "bell" magnet cover.

Hey!
Thanks for the information!

A couple of questions:

1- Are you sure about the P12Q dating? this speaker was taken from an old family hand-made radio/phono and my father told me it was made mid '50s so I assumed the speaker date was 1951.

2. Voice coil diameters?

3- Did you see my speakers' video? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2zf8tXDryU

4- Do you think there are suitable replacements at https://taweber.powweb.com/parts.htm?

I'm from Uruguay but I have a friend who will be in Indianapolis next week and I want to buy the replacements and send to his Hotel in order to re-cone the speakers. Weber seems to be a good option because is located in Indiana but maybe you have other suggestion.

I would appreciate your help on this.

Best,
Andrés

I'm certain about everything I've relayed to you.

I would never send a thing to Weber under any circumstance (my reasons are private and parochial).

Ok, but do you have other suitable parts supplier (cones, VC, etc.) ?

Thanks,
André

I rely on several different re-coning services in different parts of the country.

I have no idea where they get their parts kits from or who made them.

Ok, thanks anyway (It's impossible for me to send the speakers).

There is a vendor on Ebay who sells NOS parts sets for vintage Jensen speakers. You'd have to check all of his listing for the specifics though.
