I find it interesting that the people selling this stuff never seem to check it out.

"Very good condition. Amplifier still powers on. Has not been tested for additional function."

They are always selling crappy guitars. How much trouble could it be to just plug a guitar in and see if the amp makes noise? It would be bound to help the bidding.

Remember the items they are selling are donated to them. So yeah.... lots of stuff you and I would probably never buy. :D

All I can figure about the testing...... they probably don't want to make too many claims that could come back to bite them. What if they plugged in a guitar, strummed it, and it sounded fine. They ship it.... the buyer plugs in it, plays through for 10 minutes than speakers start to flub or the tone drops or whatever. Buyers is now pissed as he thought GW had tested the amp. They aren't guitar or amp expert, so they don't say much.

Which brings up my point - so much of this "better" stuff is going for full retail or close to it. It makes no sense. The stuff is all "As Is". It really is a pig in a poke. So you buy this twin for $700 and the speakers are shot, it needs a cap job, and someone stuck crayons in the jacks. Now what.

Precisely!

The item might arrive DOA and require twice the purchase price in repair/reconditioning costs.

"None for me, thanks."

If the MacGyvered looking cooling fan installation on the back is any indication... yeah.

Good eye. I didn't see that before, but then I didn't look too closely. But that would certainly give me reason to pause.

I'm certainly happy for Goodwill, unfortunately the auctions and wild bidding makes it hard to find a bargain anymore. I wish they would put these in their local stores first, but they are a charity and they are looking to maximize their donations.
