Hello everyone,
I'm a new member and here's my first post!

I have a SFPR circa 1968 with red screen printing on the faceplate. When I first got the amp, I didn't know anything about vintage Fender amps and it wasn't until years later that I realized SF faceplates were supposed to have blue screen printing (aside from the Bronco model).

I started a thread on FDP years ago and one member there said they had only ran across a couple other SF amps with red lettering. Aside from him, no one else had ever seen or heard about this anomaly. Coincidentally, I messaged "Arjay" the other day asking if he had any info on the faceplate variation and he emailed a picture he had of my amp that I took years ago!

Here are the rest of the pics from Dec 2007:
http://good-times.webshots.com/album/561655952irRToN

Here's what i've changed on the amp since then:
Removed the 12" baffle board w/tolex, drip edge, and Radio Shack speaker
Had a new 10" baffle board w/tolex and Weber speaker installed
Replaced the repro back panels with time appropriate repro back panels

Here is the amp after those changes: http://entertainment.webshots.com/album/583296096nxyYll

If there's any info out there about other amps with this variation, i'd like to know. Thanks!

Welcome aboard, Kevin.

The new repro back panels look swell.

If you ever decide to re-install the drip-edge molding, gimme a holler.

I might be able to help you out.

Rawk on!

Arjay,
I'd like to at some point. I live in Southern California. Where are you located?

Welcome Kevin...no info for ya, but that is one great looking amp. I love that Red! A cool piece of Fender History for sure and it being made for NAMM or some other trade show sure makes sense, maybe they got some feedback and changed to blue :?: :!:

Never let it go!

IIRC, the Bronco amp also came in Red about that same time.

The Bronco Amp was the only model that "officially" used red for the front-panel outline markings and nomenclature......

Early '68 editions featured a Vibro Champ tube chart (the VC and Bronco are otherwise identical).

Thanks for sharing. That must be one of a kind. It's certainly one of the rarest amps I've seen.

Arjay, that princeton sitting behind the bronco looks cleaner than a reissue.

That Princeton Reverb left Fullerton right about the same time that LBJ went on network TV to announce that he "would not send American boys halfway around to the world to do a job that Asian boys should be doing for themselves" (the Marines landed en masse at Danang, RVN the following year).

The Bronco amp was built about a month after the North Korean navy seized the USS Pueblo cruising in international waters in January of 1968.

I try to find the cleanest examples of Fender "tube-amp art" that I can afford.
