NFGPD * New Family Group Photo Day #3
You asked for it, You got it!

Image

Today’s photo reveals an odd couple of fun amps and a sad moment

The beautiful 1963 Fender 35w Tremolux amp head was shipped away, yesterday.
Seeing her in this photo makes me sad  But, she's off to a good home :?

Next to Ms Tremolux, is Mr Cyber Twin amp head  He has a little family of his own, featuring:
Cyber Twin Foot Controller complete with foot pedals & wah-wah effects; plus a 4-button footswitch.
On amp steroids, Mr Cyber perfectly combines Solid State Performance with two vacuum Groove Tubes,
130watts or 65 watts per channel while bench pressing two Celestion G12-100 speakers.
205 different amplifier design presets along with eleven reverb types makes Cyber one flexible amp head

===============================================

Image

The successfully well-advertised above & below “Stupid Idiot Ignorant” 1963 Fender Tremolux
System Components, are both long-gone-out-the-door to Arkansas.
There's still another "Stupid Rare Idiot" advertised by another seller left on EBay for your collections

Image

Goodbye, Tremolux. You will be missed.

Image

===============================================

Image

Very sad. This is one of two amps I wish never got away. If I only knew. Irreplaceable.
Above and below is a modified 1962 Fender 6G4B 1x12 Super Amp with a 12” Eminence Speaker.

My Backup 150w Crate amp said goodbye last month. She could kick my below
Fender 4x10 speaker cabinet, hard! . . . and even the Fender 1x15 speaker cabinet.

Image

Fender 1x15 Speaker Cabinet.

==============================================

Image

Gone is my special Fender 60w 1x12 Supersonic with a Spring Reverb Tank.
Too bad “she’s gone” (Hall & Oates). Too many amps and she had to go. Her number was up
when I discovered Paul Rivera Fender II amps and the mid-1990s Bruce Zinky Fender Custom amps.
Highly recommend the entire Fender Supersonic line-up.

Image

In Memorial ~ Twas a sad day to lose one of our own babies :(
Loved my Fender 60w Supersonics to death, but no reverb,
put her at risk for demotion. No Reverb = Less Playing Time = More Dust

Image

===============================================

Image

Who wants an early 1968 Fender 85w 2x12 Twin Reverb Amp? Not me.
When you bring home a 1964 Fender 85w 2x12 Twin Reverb, one has to go.
Say, “Bye Bye” to Miss California 1968!!!
She’s got two big honkers  and a nice rear-end

+1, Reb!

I dunno who "restored" that illegitimate 1 x 12 piece of crap but he hosed it six ways from Sunday. Worth a grand at best (and I'm being generous). By comparision, yours is a veritable cream puff!

It is a 1962 Fender 6G4B Super Amp I bought years ago and sold earlier this year.
Modified baffle and probably modified cabinet. The 12" Eminence made dramatic
differences from 2x10's I've experienced. Toppscore :)

Topp, I was asking about the vacuum tube on far left side of back side of amp. Not many US made GZ34 or 5U4GB with brown base.

Thanks!

It is the rectifier tube.
I am away from my notes, but I do remember an "R for rectifier"
being within the tube name. Either GZ3R or 5U4R.

I have the notes at home. I am betting it is 5U4R.
Toppscore.

Wow! Real nice Super Amp, Rebel :!: What color tolex best describes yours?
I’ve read that Fender shipped three (3) different colors of tolex on the 1960 Super Amps.
Does it still have its original 2x10 Jensen P10Rs installed? Reconed? Still using P10Rs, originals?
Or maybe pushed it to P10Q and a C10N for a good mix to handle that 40w behemoth’s abuse. Right?
You know these 40w Power Busters are known to blowout those weak P10R Blue Belles.

Also, gotta lay some odds that your output transformer is gone.
Nothing against you, just the 1960 product design. Original OP? or replacement?
What are your Super Amp's numbers? Tube Chart? Back-side chassis serial number?
Original Jensen speaker codes? Are your Jensen speakers 1959s or 1960s?
Matching or different pair/dates?

Does she play and sound as good as she looks? Do you have to mic her in small rooms?
Can you dime her with original P10Rs? Or do you have to keep the volume down a bit?
How is the vibrato/tremolo? Mine is like Chris Isaak gone to heaven.
Better than the post 1960 Fender Tremolo Vibratos ~ I’ll bet on it.

Which circuit does your’s house = 5G4, 6G4, 6G4A :?:
How about your tone circuit and your tremolo circuit :?:

By the way, the 1960 Fender Supers are the Mothers of all Tweeners.
Leo must have been acting like Dr Frankenstein or Ph.D Experimenter Extreme
Rebel, does your Super Amp offer some very unique Fender factory variations :?: :?: :?:
Please do tell  Thanks :D

Now, my 1960 Fender 6G4/6G8-Twin/6G4A 2x10 Super Amp will be returned this week.
Skip Simmons finished restoring it back to near original.
Went over everything, yesterday. Should ship Monday

We’ve had many long chats regarding Fender production of the 1950s/1960s,
1960s Fender in particular when they went from Tweed to Tolex and the many
amp circuitry changes involved. Also, we spent many discussions
regarding my particular 1960 Super Amp:

WARNING: FOLLOWING ARE “BEFORE” RESTORATION PICTURES

1960 Fender Super Amp * 2x12 * 6G4/6G8-Twin/6G4A
SN#01643 = 1960 * “JI” September 1960 Tube Chart
Matching 1959 Jensen P10R Speakers * 220945 * November 1959
Power Transformer = 8087 Triad 45216
Replacement Output Transformer = 606-2-13 * 022848 * 1972 Schumacher
Correct 1960 Output Transformer should be = 45216 Triad
Choke = 606035 * 125C1A * September 1960 Schumacher

Notice this matching pair of original November 1959 ‘220945’ Jensen P10R Blue Belle speakers
are ten months older than the Super Amp’s September 1960 “JI” tube chart reading. Goes to show
how “Wild Wild West” Fender was during the “1960 Summer of Tweeners”

Just gotta love all SEVEN Filter Capacitors in the Dog House Can!!!

How about SIX PRE-AMP TUBEs to give her a unique 1960 Tremolo/Vibrato circuit?
According to Skip simmons.

Quote from Skip Simmons:
“Wow! A 6G4 with a 6G8 Twin tone circuit and the 6G4-A tremelo circuit! Swingin'!

Whatever the above Fender Factory Installed circuits do and how they perform,
I will get info from Skip Simmons. I have been taking notes.
I will definitely take “after” pictures to show the work Skip has done.
The prevous owner was a complete amateur soldering on the chassis.
Skip claims to have cleaned it all up and the amp will be a show-piece for:
“The United States Institute & Museum of Fender Tweeners”
This Super Amp is the Motherhood of ALL TWEENERS

It has three different Fender Factory circuits.
What were they thinking? How to create more better good awesome sounds :!: :!: :!:
Maybe someday when I get older, someone can explain it all to me

OK. The two speakers were reconed in 1962.
The current OT Output Tranny is a 1972 Schumacher
I have paid Skip Simmons to replace the 1972 Schumacher with a “near original”.
I trust him on that. Skip has reduced my OT cost by 50% as I’m trading him my 1972 OT.
Many of the capacitors were original and in good order, but Skip has also added some
correct NOS caps where needed. You amp geeks will be able to tell how Skip has done
when I display my Before & After Photos.

Well, Rebel.
I enjoyed your photo of your great looking and great sounding (I am sure) 1960 Super Amp.
Please answer my questions, as I find Fender history to be fascinating. Thanks.

Hope you liked my photos in info. 1960 Fender Amplifiers will forever be of interest to me.

I am sorry, but my records going back do not have that info.
I usually do mark those things down. I will let you know.
It was a GE rectifier tube. Toppscore :)

RebelSoul!!!
Don't you like my 1960 Fender 6G4/6G8/6G4A 2x10 Brownface Super Amp?

Quoting RebelSoul:
"a 1960 model with 2x10s, the way Leo Fender made them....and we gig with it!!"

Does my amp qualify with yours? PLMK. Thanks.
Can it stand-up in the same line-up that "Leo Fender would want"? PLMK. Thanks.

Again, RebelSoul. You amp looks real pretty. Good looking tolex, grill cloth & faceplate.
A real player, from your own words. Thanks for sharing your amp. Much appreciated.
I asked a few questions. Any answers? Toppscore :)

Yeah Topp,I like that Super....my tolex looks to be the same as yours....the tube chart on mine is marked 5G4,but the circuit is a mix, with some of the tone circuit of the Twin from that period like you mentioned.
It had been messed with when I got it,the power tranny had been replaced and a solid state rectifier had been put in,I had it restored back to a tube rectifier....the original speakers were gone so I put in Weber 10A125s,and changed the filter caps and a few other caps that had been changed.
Like I said I wanted to gig with this and it wasn't a perfect example so I got it road worthy....it kicks azz! and doesn't have to be mic'd in the clubs we play in...sounds great.
I'm going to be out for a few days so when I get back I'll put up a few more pics.
BTW..I think the date on the tube chart is JH,Aug.'60,so this month is it's birthday!

Thanks. So you have heard or seen the mix of circuits.
I will take before and after photos this week when it arrives back from Skip Simmons.
Has your output transformer survived?

I plan to play my 1959 P10Rs that were reconed in 1962. If the recones blow, they blow, right?

I wonder if down the road, if I sold the amp with
1959 P10R's reconed in 1962
or 1959 P10Rs recoded in 2012?

Anybody have any idea if vintage amp buyers prefer
older recones to modern recones?

Ultimately, I'm planning to install each vintage a P10Q and C10N speakers
while storing the reconed 1959s. Toppscore :)
