No contest......I wouldn't have a new anything, even as an outright gift!

The Vox would be neat if it has a tube rectifier, Blue Bulldog Alnico, and maybe even a EF86. But either way, it seems like a rockin' amp! The Bassman is probably the AB165 and is cool enough, but in a totally different camp. Glad I don't have to choose! Art

Arjay - totally understand your belief on that.

Having bought a new Dr. Z to add to the Fenders I own, there is something very cool about mixing an EL84 amp with a 6L6 or 6V6 Fender.

Here's a sound comparison of various EL84 amps, including the Vox AC15:

If you already have a bunch of great Fenders, then possibly get the Vox, but don't expect to gig with it.

Great link, Nedo!!! Who needs no stinkin' EF86? Been looking for a 2 X EL84 combo. Kind of leaning towards a Badcat or Matchless. But that Vox sure seems to have the goods! A friend swears by his DR Z Perscription. There are some great choices in this field!!! Art

Lucky (or unlucky) for me, there's a store called Truetone Music in Santa Monica that's a Dr. Z dealer and has a whole amp room of them. Definitely simple, well-built amps and each has their own personality. When we went to Cleveland last year we visited their shop where they hand build them one at a time - neat stuff.

If I were to get another non-Fender (after getting a Tremolux and/or Pro Reverb, don't worry), I'm looking at their MAZ38 with reverb. Great sounding amp, and can do indoor and outdoor shows with ease.
