For those that might be interested - Tonight is the season premiere of History Detectives on PBS. Check local listings.... its on at 9:00 here locally.

All three stories center on rock-n-roll, but the main story centers on the strat that Dylan supposedly played at the Newport Folk Festival. Should be interesting. Dylan - thru his attorney - is saying he still owns the strat in question.

My understanding is that the amp this particular guitar was played through at the Newport FOlk Festival would now be vintage.  Just to stay on topic.

I think the jury's still out on this report.

More research is clearly needed.

JMOOC......

That was my understanding as well.

Of course that assertion comes from an artist whose stock-in-trade was created and nurtured during the era of billowing clouds of herbal-analgesic smoke......

"Everybody must get stoned......"

One wonders what the long-term effects of such exposure have had on his recollections.

Interesting show to say the least. I have to side with the "Detectives". The roadie ID'ing the stenciled name on the case as Dylan's company was very interesting.

However, I found the Frank Zappa collage the most interesting story of the night.

I really liked the Zappa art, too bad there aren't a lot more of it.

Wouldn't that strat be worth a lot more than $300k, I think that's about what they quoted?

Other famous guitars have gone for much more than that and I'd think this one would qualify as a famous guitar, authenticity aside.

A follow-up. Dylan's stratocaster is headed to auction.

Early auction estimates for the guitar…. $500,000

While I'm still in this tread about PBS and Rock-n-roll. American Masters this week will debut the documentary Jimi Hendrix: Hear My Train A Comin'. This Tuesday (Nov. 5 @ 9 PM)

Sounds like Bob's guitar has some more "Golden Chords" left in it. Hibbing, MN is about 45 minutes from me.

He's enjoying the "castle life" too much to fool with little old Hibbing.

I read the same story in Variety about Dylan's Strat.
