We played a hot and humid gig last night for a summer nights festival on the courthouse grounds in another county,a change of pace, but fun....I played through my '66 Pro Reverb,my son used the '60 Brown Super...we cranked them, but really should have mic'd the amps, setup was very quick with no sound check, but we pulled it off,and lots of people who don't get to hear live R&R like older folks and kids had alot of fun.

It's amazing what the old amps can do,that PR was turned up to 8 and the crunchy tone was thick and sustain was great,I plug straight in and when you're playing with no added effects any mistake is there for everyone to hear...me too. ...it really keeps you on your toes, playing with the knobs on the Strat.
If we did many outdoor gigs,I'd like to get a couple of heads and closed back cabinets....maybe that's what will be next on the menu.

Awesome pics and congratulations. Love to see those old amps back out in the field -- I'm a big believer in that as well! Also love the amp tilt back stands both seem to be on (guessing no legs on the side). Always amazed when people have amps blasting at their ankles when you let them borrow a tilt-back stand -- usually 2 reactions - wow, I can hear myself, and whoa, I'm way too frickin' loud!

Congrats on a great show. Our band plays at Bottom of the Hill next Saturday; wish I could bring my amps up but it's a 20 minute set with common back line; at least SIR in San Francisco supplies great Twin Reverbs so I can dial in close to my Showman settings... wish us luck! we have an outdoor gig in August that will be a 2 hour picnic, but LA mid-day heat is nothing like the humidity you've got there - the way I sweat I'd be a puddle by the end of your set!

thanks Ned,good luck on your upcoming gig!
The Pro has tilt back legs on it but I like to get it up off the floor outside like we were.We have been using cool tiltback amp stands by the brand Onstage, they have a threaded top where you put a mic boom on them and place it in front where you want...since there was no sound guy there, and with no sound check,we just cranked up and winged it with some helpful suggestions from a couple of friends in the crowd.
here's a link to the stands...I love 'em!

A Bassman or a Bandmaster head will be perfect in that situation, Reb. Mate it to a small-box Dual Showman enclosure configured for a pair of 12's and it'll deliver all the bass response you could wish for......

This cab features a pair of Celestion V30's -- for a more vintage vibe I'd install a pair of Chicago-made C12Q's or C12N's.

If reverb is needed, drag your 6G15 along.

Reb - Thanks for posting the pix and give a quick update on the gig. I saw you mention it in another thread and was wondering how it went with the heat and all. You obviously survived the heat to post :D . Did everyone in the crowd keep their clothes on?

Hope there was some breeze for you last night!
Or maybe the "cold ones" after the show made it worth it?

Thanks for the pics!

So Reb...Is it fair to say it was a smoking hot gig? Sorry, couldn't help myself. Glad the gig went well and nothing airing out your vintage gear!

Yep Arjay, that's what I've been thinking for a good while, here in the Nashville area some nice BF Bassman amps come up for sale occasionally, and I'm always tempted to grab one...I'll probably start looking closer now,I'd love to have one...or two. :)

Very cool stand - I have the Ultimate Genesis that's similar for my Princeton Reverb or a guest amp. the threaded mic stand on top is great; I've moved to the Sennheiser e906's and love how I can just drape them over the grill cloth...

As usual, Reb is spot on - when we play outdoors, I bring the Showman with the 2x12 Bandmaster cabinet that's loaded with Warehouse G12Cs... If you can find a Bassman and a closed cabinet, you'll have plenty of bass... I got my cab used off craigslist for a song because it didn't sound good with his Metal amp...

Bummer that while it was hot, no one took any clothes off...
