Yeah, welcome to the future......30 years ago anyway. Machines can more easily handle a "zero ohm resistor" than they can a plain jumper wire. These have been around for as long as I can remember.

That's what we called "jumpers" for use in insertion machines for pcb manufacture.
And they had part numbers too.


Forgot to add... these were "proto builds" for small run tests and the final value would be determined thru testing. Not limited to resistors either.
