You just have to keep things very simple for some people and even then they may not get it.

But I don't understand, Do I remove the 2 tube at the same time or after I plug the guitar in. Which tubes the big ones or the small ones. What if I remove 1 tube and use half of an Attenuator. So many questions

Good. Makes sense.
Never know when pulling tubes or components as to what can happen.[/quote]

Gotta keep it simple. Remove tubes one at a time. Electricity on for you
Half attenuators are not fulfilling
Too many responses. Keep them coming Tba    You'll get it

Getting back to the 6V6 substitution, Beemer do you think Phillips JAN 6V6 GT tubes could handle the plate voltage(475)? They're 1986 iteration NOS. Art

+1 aclempoppi.

With two tubes removed, the amp won't play at half level, and 50 watts is a very loud too.

+1

Theoretically, (if memory serves me/someone please correct if this is wrong):
10 watts will give approximately 1/2 the volume of 100 watts. It would take 1000 watts to achieve approximately 2 times the volume of 100 watts. So pulling 2 tubes from a 4 tube amp cuts the watts in half, which doesn't cut the volume in half.
(Theoretical of course, your mileage may differ :)

Philips JAN 6V6GT can handle a lot of anode voltage. Just be sure to keep the idle bias current down, so that the idle wattage of dissipation = no more than 10 watts. I like to be sure that the grid stoppers and screen grids are in tolerance, too. Using good heat-resistant, metal oxide ones helps as both sit on the socket, directly below the output tubes and the heat they generate.

Really, only NOS and selected JJ 6V6S (the ones with the modified 5881 guts) can handle that kind of plate voltage for any length of time.

To maintain the 6L6GC "tone," a good mil spec GTA is a nice tube. Many good brands. Best luck I've had is with the slightly taller 1960's TungSol 6V6GTA.
