So what I’m thinking on this 1963 Pre-CBS Deluxe (non reverb with no original speaker) is that if he wants $900, offer him $500-$600, spend $200-300 on tubes, bias, capacitors, cleaning …bla bla bla and whatever else and then I will have a nice $7 to $800 dependable amp for the time being. :D :D
Im going to look at it today, whats the most i should spend on it...
here are some pix

It's pretty clean and "all there" as far as I can tell. I'd feel more confident after seeing some "under the hood" pics but it's definitely worth the asking price.

Retro,
so even if i spend $900 on it "as is" THEN another $200 to $300 on tweaks, tubes and repairs it still a good deal???
I just get so many mixed feelings from everyone. Some say it’s not worth 900 some say it is, others say it’s no good because it’s not a reverb…….. this will be my first old vintage amp and I just want to be careful and not make a huge mistake after the deal is done… i don't care about the reverb since i use a 63 RI unit... so i'm good with that part of it.

holy smokes man,,,,,

i guess $900 is a good deal.....

I taking a screwdriver with me and checking that sucker out just like i would do a guitar... but apparently the guy bought it from a amp repair guy 8 years ago so I’m assuming whatever was wrong back then (if any at 40yrs old) would have be fixed…. Im getting excited about this now…and nervous…   :D

Here are the correct P/N's for the trannies in that amp......

Power tranny -- 125P23B
Output tranny -- 125A1A
Choke -- 125C3A

All should have Woodward-Shumacher's EIA code stamped on them as well, formatted as "606-3XX".

OK guys, i got it... :D :D :D . paid $700 and here are the pictures. I called Fender this afternoon when I got home and apparently it’s the 79th Deluxe BF amp made in 1963 (first year) …. Model no: AA763, SN: A 00179. It looks to me to be absolutely all original except for the speaker. It sounds unfrikin unreal. Better than my 2012 EC Tremolux….. Well, that sounds pretty good too…lol, but it’s almost like the Closet Classic of amps. It's been sitting in a closet for the past 8 years, Looks old but has hardly any wear and tear, not even a cut in the tolex….its missing one little silver disc on the intensity knob and that’s it. Only thing is it lowers a bit in volume when you hit the vibrato switch other than that is a beautiful piece of Pre-CBS Fender history…. WOW im so excited…. Tell me what you think,,,,,,,,,,, :D :D :D :D

Ya done good, kiddo!

I see a couple of metal oxide replacement resistors around the phase inverter stage but other than that, it's unmolested. And for seven bills, this transaction qualifies as the "deal of the week".

Rawk on!

Thanks Retro,
I have no earthly idea what you just said has been done to it but I’ll take you word on it… :? :? .lol, I asked the guy if I could take it all apart and he pretty much said “no frikin way” …. So I said “ok” I’ll give you $700 instead of $900 and bought it. I’m really glad and so happy It worked out. It’s my first real vintage amp. A day to remember forever….. Just not sure why the volume lowers a bit when the vibrato is switched on. Oh well….i don’t use vibrato so I guess that ok…

Try replacing V3 with a known good 12AX7.

There is typically some insertion loss within the tremolo circuit and a weak tube usually compounds that phenomenon.

A great amp for an even better price, congratulations!
Being the Weber fanatic that I am,I suggest that you should enjoy that amp as it is,without worrying that another speaker will sound much better,I have Webers in most of my amps.
If you ever have to have work done on it....and with vintage amps it happens, like taking care of a classic vintage car....find a reputable tech who has credentials with vintage amp players, and have nothing replaced that isn't needed...some guys will tell you things like,"if you replace those old blue molded caps with orange drops,it will sound cleaner."...if you hear something like that, tell the guy to pound sand and come back here to get some real advice!
Enjoy that Deluxe!
