I’m looking to buy a 63 Deluxe(no reverb). They want $900, this does not have the original speaker and looks to be in fairly good shape. Has Weber Ferromax replacement….
Thanks
Here is the info:
amp model # aa763. fender chassis serial number a00179

According to the 2011 Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide - in Excellent Condition -$1,800 to $2,000.

The replacement speaker will drop the value for some collectors. Weber Speakers have a hearty and happy following here. A lot of the forum members will pull the original speaker to preserve it and then put in a Weber.

There are a few on gbase listed in the price guide range and of course for more. FWIW - Gbase.com is where dealers post their wares. Its a good place to start to find "retail" pricing.

Forget the price guide and the dealers. Everyone wants the Deluxe Reverb and the Princeton Reverb.... meaning you can find the Deluxe and Princeton No-verbs for under market value.

Here's the Tech information on the Deluxe No-verb.

If I was in the market for a Deluxe..... I'd jump all over that. Just take your guitar and cords and play through it.

Thanks,
Very helpful info.
I would love a Deluxe Reverb but i have an EC Tremolux and use a '63 RI Reverb unit, that being so the no Reverb Deluxe would be ok for me :D . I thought that price was not too bad. Will there be a big difference in the sound with that non original speaker???.

I am not the person to speak to that issue - there a more knowledgable and more tech savvy guys on the forum. :D They can tell you which Weber would be the correct one to install for the amp. If you can find out the exact Weber speaker (series and model #), the other members can probably give you some guidance.

At $900 - you certainly have room to spend money a the "correct" Weber replacement and still be ahead of the game. :D

I have a Weber in my '73 Vibro Champ and love it 100x more than the anemic period correct Oxford that came with it. (The Oxford was a 1975, but the correct speaker type)

Be sure to take your favorite axe over to test drive it, when you get a chance. Photos of the lovely lady would be very nice, indeed!

The non-verb Deluxe is nice but lacks the appeal of the reverb model. They're worth $1200, tops.

The OEM speaker likely was a ceramic Oxford 12K8 -- singularly unremarkable in tone. I'm sure the Weber ceramic is a sonic improvement though I'd prefer a Chicago-made Jensen C12P or C12N.

Going to try and get it for 6 or 700, but i will do 8 or 9 if i need to. I run through a 63RI reverb that i have about $200 invested in so the non rvrb thing is OK with me. The fact that it's pre-CBS just seems cool to me. This will be my first old amp. Will be cool to compare it to my EC Tremolux :D

Retroverbial gives solid advice. (And stated it better and more concisely then I did  )

Those No-verb amps are not as desirable as the Deluxe Reverb and you can get them much cheaper. As I poorly stated before - throw out the price guides and dealer prices on the No-verb and make an offer. Sounds like your flexible in your price and should be able to negotiate a reasonable deal for both you and the seller.

I have a Princeton and a Princeton Reverb. Both are great amps, but I got the Princeton for less than 1/2 of what I paid for the Princeton Reverb. My son has it and uses a reverb pedal with it. I don't know if I'll ever get it back.

When you get it..... post some photos.

+1

I picked up a late '64 Pro Amp a couple of years back for a virtual song. The tube chart is stamped "NL" (December) and it may have been the last one ever produced.

Leo might've actually touched it.

Wave some "e pluribus unum" in the seller's face and I'm sure he'll deal.

Best of luck and let us know how the dicker goes (post pics if fruitful).

Rawk on!

Don't buy it on "looks" alone.

Ask about what servicing it has had (maintenance). What "mods" if any, have been done.
It may need new capacitors and/or other replacement parts if it's truly that old.
Which would mean you have to invest $200 or so into it.

Old hands at the vintage amp game plan on that as a matter of course. Figure a full set of bottles, new filter and bias caps, plus the odd resistor or two.

Anyone dismayed by this prospect should stick to modern G-Dick's, Vagrant Miscreant's, and Fizz Master's with their 5-year factory "security blanket".

I'm picking up on that after reading many posts on "vintage amps".
It's now something I would figure-in as part of any vintage buy.
Thanks Arjay.
