I just aquired what I believe to be a Bassman cabinet. Or, at least thats what Dad said it was. He has had this cabinet for as long as I can remember and finally decided to give it to me. I can see it has 2 different speakers in it so Im guess at some point someone repaired it. So with that being said I am just trying to find out which would be the correct one, where I would be able to find one, and what kind of head it would have come with. I would like to try to complete it and keep it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/83 ... 13854.jpg/

Well I can answer at least one of your questions. The Fender brown and gold labeled speaker is the original type. In order to answer the rest acuratly we need some more info. I believe this cab is from 65 or 66. But to be sure you need to pull out the fiberglass baffle sheets and look for the following: A date code on the rim of the speaker with the brown and gold lable, a inked stamped date on the cab...some have them some don't, also check the inside of the tilt back legs (the side that is closest to the cab) and look for a inked stamped date. Pics of the speakers (without the fiberglass sheets) and the inside of the cab would also be helpful in giving you more information. Lasly measure the cabinet (HxLxW), that will also help with dating it as the cab dimensions increased over time.

If it is indeed a 65/66 or so it would have had a Blackface Bassman Amp head.

Just to add to the info that Tony has provided, the "Fender" speaker is actually a contract-made Jensen C12N -- standard OEM fare for the Bassman and Twin Reverb amps of that era. The other speaker is a replacement -- specifically a Jensen Concert Series EM1200, with performance parameters similar to that of the C12N. I have a matched pair of these installed in my '67 silverface Bandmaster. Check each of your speakers for ink-stamped codes which will reveal their age.
