Topp, the amplifier section was the weak point. The cab and speakers were fine. Art

Just to muddy the subject(and bug Shimmy) I used a Champ 12 for 5-6 years. It was in no way as down-home as my '55 Valco(never owned a vintage Champ). The amp has 500 VDC on the 6L6 plate, (2) 12AX7's, and a solid state short spring reverb, a 12" Emminence Fender design speaker. Used it to drive a 4X10 Musicman. The best feature, IMHO, was the line out. And yes, replaced the input jack before I sold it. The amp went to Madison, WI. The fella uses three of them in a country, polka, cajun band. That's three single-ended amps for his guitar!!! How cool is that? Art

Art. What do you mean with the word "short" within your statement:
"and a solid state short spring reverb"? Length or short for something else?
Do solid state amps also have long reverb tanks?

I have a Fender FM100H 100w Solid State amp head with a fender spring reverb.
I it has a shorter (approx ten inchs) reverb tank that is factory installed.
It was suggested that the weakest part of the excellent Fender FM-100H amp
was/is the spring reverb tank and that I should get something better from
Amplified Parts in Arizona.

Do Fender Solid State reverb tanks have a bad reputation?

Following below is the spring reverb I purchased for my FM100H
and some of my notes. Should install it later this month.
====================
MOD 4EB3C1B Reverb Tank
Replacement Reverb Tank For 4EB3C1B
Solid, Sturdy Construction
Long (16 3/4") 2 Spring Unit, Long Decay
Input Impedance 600 Ohms, Output Impedance 2250 Ohms

The MOD Reverb Tanks are high quality upgrade units. Some of the
major differences between the MODs and other reverb tanks are that the
Transducers are wired directly to their respective RCA jacks as opposed
to current production tanks where Transducers are connected by a
detachable plug to their respective RCA jacks. This makes the tanks less
receptive to any outside interference. The original Hammond Accutronics
tanks from the 1960's were also wired directly to their respective RCA jacks.
In addition very close attention has been paid to the spacing and size
of the lamination of the Transducers resulting in a more vintage like tone.

Rebel, great amps. Plus, you have the 1960 Fender multi-circuited 6G4 Super Amp
like I do as well. My newly restored 1960 Super Amp will be here sooooooonnnnn.
Skip simmons emailed today: "Dang - It was hard letting this one go..... I kept finding
more fun little things to do!" I was supposed to ship Friday or yesterday.
Again, on another thread I will post before & after photos.

But, regarding your comments: "Topp, the Vibrolux Reverb 35w, Deluxe Reverb 22w

very similar sounding except for the speaker configuration and of course the Deluxe

Would you consider your three amps to be in the same circuit family of amps?

Similar as the Fender Vibrosonic Reverb, Twin Reverb, Showman Reverb, Quad Reverb
and a couple of others are related in a different family of amps?
Toppscore :)

My first guitar! :) SG Faded model. '03/4 with the ebony board. Upgraded with Duncan Pearly Gates (what I hear AY is using these days in his SGs).

If you want to see all of my gear here is my photobucket album:

FF1988...Very nice collection...I am digging the Taylor Acoustic...used to have a 410 from the early 90's, great guitar, that is one I miss a bit, but at least it was sold to a friend who still has it and plays it all the time! I am also digging that poster behind your PRS! Nice.

Yeah the Taylor is my favorite acoustic out of all the ones I've played so far. The 414ce just works for me.

Thanks!

Very very nice collection. I'd find it hard to go to work if I had HALF your arsenal.

Thank you!

I'm very passionate about collecting, same for playing. I have been collecting since 2004. But I'm a player who collects and first and foremost I use them to get different tones and textures. Being in a cover band who does exact covers and having to get the original tones it helps to have a palette of different guitars. Even my guitars that are several of the same type - all have different pickups to get all different sounds. But it seems I always come back to the Telecaster. It's just so straightforward.

Hey Fenderfan, You mentioned that your fav '09 Tele was heavily modified, can you give me the low down? But try to make it succinct, before I get busted for "off-topic". Art

Ah yes - the guitar I've had someone offer their wife in exchange for!

It's by far the best Fender I've played - I'm more a Tele and Les Paul guy than a Strat and SG guy but I play 'em all.

The mods are as follows.

Saddles - Barden Compensated Brass (I prefer the old school twangy sound of brass to the steel)
Pickups - Wilde Keystones (Although at some point these will be changed for Ellis Broadcasters)
Pickguard - Allparts Bakelite Pickguard
Aging - Removed all hardware and plastic and soaked in tea and acid (tea for plastic, acid for parts). Also added some extra dings, scrapes. Also used an Xacto knife on some edges and put a cig burn on the headstock. These are purely cosmetic improvements to make it a bit more realistic to me. I also rubbed off the Mexico imprint on the back of the headstock.
Electronics - .047 Orange Drop Capacitor. The pots were fine so I left as is. I did clean up the wiring some when I put the Wilde's in.
Fingerboard - I did something I saw online called "rolling the fingerboard". Kind of hard to explain but you can take a screwdriver and the long part and run against the edge of the fingerboard to "round it off". Roman Rist (a big name luthier) has a video on this - that's how I learned it. Makes a big difference for feeling "broken in".

I think that wraps it up. Oh, I also added a waterslide pinup decal.

Thanks for the response, Fenderfan!!! Kind of similar to mine.(although I have a P90 in the neck) But yeah, I've been dressing fret ends and shoulders for years. But I use a jewelers file and emory cloth. Very Cool !!! Art
