Jeez, people on this forum don't hang about, do they?

Everytime I post a question asking "What's the cheapest/easiest/free-est way for me to do this", in under 15 minutes I'll get 3 replies saying "You can't. Find some money somewhere and do it properly."

Thanks fellas!

I don't know whether to to laugh at or be insulted by this post. Right now I am tending toward insulted. If you don't like the answers you are getting, don't waste our time asking the question.

Hey, I'm genuinely sorry if my post came across as insulting, it was meant as a joke ! Thanks everyone for your suggestions.

Ok. Sorry if I overreacted. It has been a very bad week for me. I'm facing layoff at work if I don't find a new position in the next few weeks. :(

Then there are these cool little boxes (low cost) called Overdrive pedals.

Blackface and Silverface Fenders are not known as overdrive machines, just the exact opposite ! super clean is what they do best.

My favaorite OD's Route 66 used about $80 on the bay
The very best I've used Cmatmods Signa Drive $135 shipped brand new
Three clipping chioces and tons of gain !!!

Hit the front end hard with a lot of clean boost with a comp like the Route 66 and you will get some snarl out of any preamp running 12AX7's

ain't it the truth... a pedal is about the only thing that will get you some OD...

I use a vt999 which gives it a nice gain-stage preamp type distortion. very marshall JCM-ish, I'll toss a tube screamer ON-TOP of that.... I can get some different stuff with that layered effect, really thick. or a metal zone for real nasty stuff...

I've heard REALLY good things about the MXR micro amp pedal... iot's the one that Jack white uses in front of a twin for his "Always on" sound... real simple pedal... only a gain knob.

I'm looking to start building my own pedals to try out some of the different boutique builds... like a les lius (lovepedal) or a Way Huge red Llama. as it is my budget would allow for 1-2 a year... building I could probably do 6-7... who doesn't like new pedals ;)

If I'm not mistaken the Webber Mini Mass is 25 watts and won't do the job. For a 50 watt head you want the 100 watt webber mass. A cranked 50 watt amp puts out more wattage. The head says 50 watts cause that's what they rated it for clean play. I'm looking into a attenuators to and I'm settled on the 100 watt webber mass right now or do I need the 150 watt webber?

NR, the 100watt, should safely do the job. It's just a matter of heat dissipation. Art

I had a 67 silverface bassman for a while and used a dr z airbrake to attenuate it. Worked really well, though a little on the pricey side. Lets you get the volume down pretty low with some nice tube saturation.
