Based on the two date codes noted, I'd say mid-year of 1971.

It'll clean up pretty easily I think, though it's not in bad shape right now.

They're really beautiful-sounding amps!

Rawk on!

That they are! The thing I like best about this amp as opposed to my '65 DRRI: The volume taper! Your ears are bleeding when you hit 4 on the reissues, and it doesn't get much louder after that. With vintage fenders, the volume actually gradually increases as you turn the dial. What a novel concept!

I have a 74 DR and love it. I did a few tweaks to it to bring to BF specs. But I think the most significant tweaks, assuming all else is health with the amp, were clipping the bright cap and mating it with an efficient speaker. I intially was using a Jensen P12NF reconed to "N" specs. Sounded wonderful. Currently I have an EVM 12L and I am digging that at the moment. The EVM handles all the low end I can throw at it althoguh it strys a bit from the lower volume Fender "chime". BUt I play a Strat with heavy strings and TS pups so I am losing some chime anyway. A standard USA Strat with 10s sounds chimy even through the EVM.

EV's are great speakers......I just wish they weren't so damn heavy.

They make a D120F or an Altec 417C seem like bantam-weight!

Yes...the EV makes for a "solid" DR. I dont gig out much so I guess I will keep it for a while. But 50 is approaching so the P12N will be going back in at some point....:)

I have a Fender-marked 1966 C12N ear-marked for that very purpose.

(and for the same reason)

Actually, about a seven-pound reduction.

The current speaker is a D120F.
