FYI: Here's a little blurb fixing a bad reverb.

No reverb:

o Input or output cable to the reverb pan not plugged in
o Failing reverb drive tube
o Failing reverb recovery tube
o Bad reverb tank: measure the resistance between the center and outside conductors on the RCA jack on the reverb tank. It should be less than 2K ohms for all types of Hammond/Accutronics tanks, at both input and output sides. Many Fender amps may have a resistance of only 2-4 ohms at the input side. This is normal.

Other amps may have higher input resistances, from several hundred ohms up to a couple of K. If the resistance is high, the tank is bad. You can look inside the tank to see if one of the little wires have come loose from the RCA jack; some tanks can be saved this way. If the little coils at the ends of the springs are open, get a new tank. Sometimes the delay springs break. You're welcome to try to solder/putty/glue them back together, but don't expect too much from this.

Very faint or thin reverb

This is caused by too little signal getting through the reverb path.Could be:

 Failing drive or recovery tube
 Failing component making one of these tubes be biased incorrectly.

Hum from reverb

 Open ground/shield on reverb cable
 Dirty/corroded RCA jack/plug on reverb cable
 Broken ground wire inside reverb tank

Hiss from reverb
 drive or recovery tube going noisy
 Resistor going noisy in drive or recovery tube circuit

Distorted reverb sound; failing drive or recovery tube or failing component making one of these tubes biased improperly.

Other problems:

Crackling or popping sound from reverb

Squealing noise from the reverb, affected by the reverb control

Scratchy reverb control

Thank you for these hints Sir!
I've made a copy for future reference!

Someday we'll teach you about the "disgronificator" and how to mod it.

Shouldn't the tubes be removed before pulling the chassis?

not neccassary per se but def worth while in regards to accidently breaking a tube if you mishandle the chassis pulling it out.

My luck, being the way it is, demands I remove tubes first. :?

I usually leave the tube covers on the pre amps tubes (Fenders) and take out the power and recto tubes to be safe. I always hate fixing stuf that "I" break....:)

When removing a combo chassis, I generally leave the bottles in situ and use the output tranny as a "handle" to support the weight as I slide it out. There's less room for this with a head so I always remove the output tubes to prevent accidents.

Yep, pull the tubes, unless you've done this a hundred times! You might want to make a reference line on the preamp tubes and base, with a sharpie. This can really aid in tube replacement. And Arjay's method of using the power trans as support is the real deal! JMHO Art

Well, with Arjay's tutorial as guide managed to get the chassis out of the cab, it didn't really want to leave its home without some coaxing. I did take the tubes out first, and no wiener injuries occurred. Inside didn't look like the hectic wreck I'd expected, though some of the components look like old baked beans. Here are pics, tried to cover everything, so sorry for so many. The quality is poor, but I hope enough detail that the assembled professors of ampology can tell what's what and weigh in. Thanks to all!

Twang....
looks like standard stuff. Had some previous work done where you see the orange colored capacitors and the light blue resistors. Not mods but maintenance items.
Wouldn't take much to get it healthy I am sure. Def worth doing. The white color capacitors on the main board as well as other electrolytic caps cab be replaced to get up to snuff. If it was me I would get it going for sure.
As far as the orig problem wouldn't take too much time to figure out and assess most likely. Board doesnt look moldy at all.

+1

Relatively speaking, it looks pretty clean.

And I'm sooooooo relieved that there were no "wiener" injuries......

Much better than I expected!

As mentioned, I can see the orange drop caps so it must have work done on it in the not too distant past.

I would definitely spend some $ on this! But again, if you don't want to and you live close to Massachusetts ....

Professor Arjay..what do the date codes on the xfmr tell us?
