I have a Marsh Tweed Deluxe clone.

Fitted with:-

EH12AY7
Tungsol (Russian) 12AX7
2 x JJ 6V6S
Unidentified 5Y3GT

Jensen (Italy) C12Q 8ohm spkr.

Fender's reissue uses (according to .pdf manual)
2 x 12AX7 (change 1st to 12AY7 for original low-gain sound)
2 x 6V6 GT
5Y3GT

What do you use?

would a 5751 in lieu of the 12AY7 give more cleans?

DIY'ed for a friend about 10 years, ago now. Sylvania 5AR4 rectifier. Brimar CV511 (mil spec 6V6GTY). And TFK ECC83 under the shields. As far as I know, only the rectifier has been replaced by as Mullard. I upgraded the PT to take the 5AR4/GZ34.

Pretty sweet, Steve!

A bit more clean headroom subbing out the 5Y3 with a 5AR4?

JB, a 5751 would give you more gain, than the 12AY7. So clean? No. But wait, a NOS RCA or Amperex 5751 can really deliver the goods. But in a subdued kind of way(the tonality is not as well defined, as a 12AX7). I'm not familiar with the current production tubes, just not on my radar. Maybe the other guys have a better handle on the newer tubes. Art

Very nice!!! But we need to get back to JB's Marsh 5E3. A schem would help, but otherwise, it's a flat-out Deluxe, right? The 12AY7, as an input tube, fulfills it's needs. So a really good quality tube could do the deed, if all things are equal? The 5751 is just an aside consideration. Or have I lost the drift? Art

jbloggs, a 12AY7 has a mu of 44. The 5751 is 70. More tube mu usually means an earlier onset of OD. All things, like inherent tube impedance interaction with the circuit & feedback influences being equal.

Both are great audio tubes. I like the tone of the 12AY7 (6072) better, in circuits that are designed for this tube (like early tweed Bassman).

What works on your amp is amp dependent. Which means trying each one (pinouts are compatible) is the only way to really know for sure.

+1

The 5751's standard operating characteristics are quite similar to those for a 12AT7.

Throw that EH 12AY7 away and use one of these:

I use it in V1 of my 5F6A clone and Blues Deluxe Reissue. Great tube for the money.

I have one of the Fender '57 Reissues,I really don't play it much although it's a good sounding amp,I do use a NOS 12AY7 and the rest are American made tubes ....I installed a Weber 12A125 in it also,it sounds better than the Jensen RI to me....they're great little gritty tone machines.

Reb is that amp one of the high zoot hand wired Fenders? JB, I too, have used the GE 6072 and RCA 12AY7's in my bogus Bassman. Very good tubes!!! Art

In my Victoria 20112 I use a NOS JAN GE 5751 in place of the 12ay7 and an NOS RCA 5v4ga. The whole feel is a little tighter than with the 5y3 with better bottom end and I like the gainier tone of the 5751 with my strat particularly. I dont really even use the amp with the standard tube compliment anymore.

Yep,Art,it sounds great, but the things are too expensive!...I bought it on a whim, one of the few non vintage amps I own.
