Truth be told, i just don't understand the circuits enough to mod and make it sound better.

I can however poke a stick at componants and see if they make funny noise or hook up a multi meter and check to see if they are in spec.

I wish I knew enough theory to make changes that sound better :(

Buy these two books:

http://www.amazon.com/Vacuum-Tube-Circu ... 192&sr=1-2

http://www.amazon.com/Vacuum-Tube-Circu ... 192&sr=1-1

They are not cheap, but they are very good and easy to understand. The math is somewhat complex, but it is mostly algebra. In addition, the publisher has a great website with analyses of several amp circuits and calculators for many of the things discussed in the two books.

http://ampbooks.com/

I used the calculators several times while working on modding my Champion 600. Make things really easy.

IMHO,there's not much that can be done to vintage Fender amps when they're in spec to "mod" them and make them sound better.....the main things that you can do after replacing out of spec components is to try different tubes and speakers that will change the tone.....like we all say...Leo got it right the first time!

Please realize that I do not advocate modding a true vintage amp. Only doing what is necessary to make it playable and safe. I was just recommending some books to BB to help him understand some amp theory.

I bought this book

http://www.amazon.com/Circuit-Analysis- ... 863&sr=1-3

and studied it before buying my 5F6A amp kit. I wanted to know how the amp worked and why it sounded like it does.
