I finally took a couple of pics of the Weber speaker and the way they used to be labeled,also on the Weber site there's a pic of a similar speaker to the ones you mentioned,I think it says that one is from '97 or so.

I don't know about that on the early ones,but the later ones have a sticker with that info filled in,I'll take a pic tonight of that to show the difference.
edited to add: I just looked at Weber's site and they have a pick of a 1997 speaker with the same sticker...so mine is a 2001...I thought that was when I got that one.

My understanding is that Ted built these speakers to early Jensen standards, So a C12N would be close to the original. C = ceramic. 12-inch, N = 50 watts.

I have several amps that had Weber P12R, C12Q, and P12N put into them back in the 1990's Still sound very good.

That's probably why they are labeled different now,Weber has several options on the basic speaker design,choice of wattage,etc.
