Hey fellas,
My amp has been through a few changes as you know, all new caps, new 6L6GCs, and the bias adjust has been modded to bias the output tubes to a nominal current. I had a microphonic PI tube which I replaced with a 12AU7 which fixed that problem. Something I noticed just yesterday though was a ticking sound from the amp. All the controls are set to 1 and the vibe is clicked on. The ticking corresponds with the vibrato speed. No ticking when vibe is off. Any clues where I should start? I tried a new tube but that didn't change a thing.

Ken

Arc, I take the chassis out of the amp. PLug in a speaker load. No input. No or slight volume. And use a wooden chopstick around that 12AX7 tremolo/vibrato driver tube. Move the wiring looms around the tube and listen for changes to the pitch and frequency of that ticking. You may also need to redress the soldering around the tube (amp off, of course). Eventually, you'll hit a null point where the ticking is zero or near zero.

This usually does it. The geometry of those wires is very critical to picking up noise from the opto-bug.

Good Luck!
