Solid job, Hollis!

You might consider those recessed side handles a la the Marshall style. They provide a positive purchase point when lifting or carrying and they're easy to install.

Have you settled on the exterior color scheme yet?

Rawk on!

Looks great! I wish you lived near me. We could have built 2 at a time! I want one so badly.

Thanks Toppscore, that was informative and insightful. I had never heard of Tone Ring cabs before.

You are welcome.
I am going to have three different tone-ring cabinets made.
Unique configurations will be the goal.

Yeah Arc-n-spark you are certainly welcome to come over and build some stuff! I would enjoy the company! I've even got enough material left over for an entire cab.

Arjay, so far I'm just gonna go with black tolex and a similar matching grill cloth. I am researching how to build the grill frame. The next cab I build I might go with something a little more exotic. This cab's functionality is first and foremost. Although I've spent a lot of time on the build quality, the aesthetics are not quite as important to me. I bought an Egnater Rebel 20 a while back and I need a cab to play it through. Right now it's running through a POS Raven combo amp(using just the combo's speaker) and it sounds awful. It has zero bottom end and it sounds like a generic fizzy mess.

Hollis...just a thought since you have a nice Egnater 20, you might consider getting some tolex to match it and go with egnater matching grill cloth...your 2x12 cab would great sitting under that head all decked out in egnater colors. I kind of like the egnater color scheme (great amps too!) as the two tone it different but not overdone.

FWIW

It'd make for a very attractive rig.

That's a really great idea. I will certainly consider it. This will be my first tolex job though, so we'll see how it turns out. It might not look too great

Thanks, Arjay that would be great! I've seen a few things online, and I think I have the general idea, but still not 100% sure about joining the seams and tucking inside corners.

Got your addy, Hollis.

Delete it from your post now lest some "bot" come by and scoop it up.

Otherwise you'll be receiving untold spam from everyone on the internet with a keyboad and something to sell.

Hollis...if it turns out your tolexing skills are only half as good as your woodworking skills, I am thinking it will turn out just fine...seems to me you said you could build anything from metal, but wood was another story...seems to me you more than passed that test, with a solid A+ :!:

And once you complete your first custom cab job, you realize that you don't have to slavishly buy whatever cookie-cutter junk that happens to be sitting on the display-room floor at your local GC.

Looks great Hollis!
Just read all the posts as one day I'm going to attempt this type of build too.

Funny you should mention that. I've always wanted a Mesa Rectifier cab, but didn't want to dish out $650 plus tax. So I thought, "I bet I could build a cab just as good, buy a couple of V30 speakers, and have the exact same thing for half the price." As it turns out, after buying the birch plywood, two Vintage 30's, tolex, grillcloth, leather handle, and all the hardware, I'll have around $500 in it. That's with all top-grade components. I could have bought cheaper plywood, speakers, and covering material, and come out around $250-300.

I have had a really good time building this thing a little at a time every day when I get home from work. I have learned a lot and I've made some good friends. I still have plenty of material left over, and although I haven't yet completed it, I'm already thinking about what cab I should build next.
