ok, I see. What type of blade did you use? I was having a lot of trouble curving the saw around and staying precisely on the line. Well the baffle board for Fender cabs is 1/2" (either birch ply or MDF) so the thickness is likely the reason you're finding it tough going with a hand-held jigsaw. I think 3/4" for a baffle board is a bit "overkill" but I know some professional SR/PA enclosures are built like that.

How do you do the top front route?

Prior to assembling the box, the sides pieces are pre-cut to the required 25-degree break angle to match the front panel of the Fender chassis. For any Fender combo cab, the front edge of each side is also angled from bottom to top since the front of the cab is not precisely perpendicular to ground (when viewed from the side elevation). The typical example generally is one inch deeper at the bottom.

Oops, for the baffle board I did use 1/2" birch plywood, not 3/4".

Hollis, for not being able to make anything out of wood you are sure doing a fine job! Arjay is a wealth of knowledge on refurbing or building new cabs and amps...he has given me countless tips and suggestions on some of the work I have done. He has provided me with several lessons and "How To's", I am looking for a suitable donor amp for a nice winter project for my son and I, hoping for something to retolex! Your cab is sure keeping my juices flowing for the hunt!

Keep the pics coming on your progress. We are all enjoying it!

I thought that might be the case but it's hard to tell from the photos.

Will you be Tolexing this cab, veneering the exterior, or simply staining and sealing with a clear coat?

There's nothing inherently difficult to building amp cabinets or speaker enclosures so long as those who attempt it have some experience working with common hand tools, can follow a basic assembly sequence, and are familiar with the materials required. I've been at it for a number of years now......
After having "dissected" countless amps during a restoration process, I discovered the logic and simplicity of the procedure and now feel comfortable enough that I can pretty much duplicate any design or style. Arjay

Beautiful cabinet, Arjay.
Your presence on this forum is impressive.

I will go to an established cabinet speaker designer to get several custom
speakers built. Will cost money, but I do not have time, ability or desire.

I am look at building open-back speaker cabinets with unusal speaker ports.
I can buy empty 1x8 . . . . . 1x15 any time.
I can buy empty 2x10, 2x12, 2x15, 3x10, 4x10 & 4x12 cabinets any time.

So, I plan on a few different speaker port designs.
A buddy of mine has a guitar/amp shop and sells 1x10/1x12 cabinets.
Real cool. Toppscore 8)

Toppscore, what are you planning to do with the speaker cabs, use them with your amps?
You have some great amps,I can't imagine needing extension cabinets. :D

I'm still curious how you did the top route across the front side. I'm assuming you maintain that angle across the front and I don't see how that can be done with a router.

Either I don't know what a rout is, or you don't.

You'll have to elaborate on your question.

Interesting Elephant Memory Rebelsoul

Actually, probably no more combo amps on my agenda.

My current amp heads are (if I can remember):
1963 Tremolux Blonde Brownface amp head w/matching 2x10 Blonde speaker cabinet
1964 Bassman Blackface with Presence
1968 Bandmaster Reverb
1968 Showman Reverb
1983 Twin Reverb II amp head model * 105w (Rivera factory custom)
1994 Fender Tone Master 100w Bruce Zinsky Custom Shop
Blonde amp head & matching Blonde 2x12 speaker cabinet

2006 Fender Cyber Twin amp head
2010 Fender FM-H100 100w Solid State amp head
2011 Peavey Vypyr 30w amp head

My goal is to create sounds and tones for my favorite cover songs and
original songs. I want the unusual speaker cabinets to help create unusualness.

I'm going to have built: 4x8, 1x15/2x10, 1x12/2x8, 1x12/1x10/1x8 at least.
I already own a 4x10 Fender Speaker cabinet with Celestions
and a 1x15 LARGE Bass cabinet with JBL (i think).

Then mess around with vintage 1950s/1960s Jensen speakers.
I have been collecting 50s/60s Jensen speakers for some time.

Maybe add a P12N with two P10Qs
or
C12N C10N C8N together. etc.
Just fun to hear all the possibiliites.

I am in the infancy of this project, as I have procured the amps, guitars & speakers.
Now, gotta work on my scales and chops, vocal chords, and get some speaker cabs made.

There it is. My 2012 music goals, all laid out. Toppscore 8)

I think I understand the question. A round over bit in a router will cut the wood to look like what you have on the top edges for the sides and back (90 degrees) but the top front is a different story. You have an angle that you must have done something different to get that round over. Either you used a different bit on top front which isn't a 90 degree round over or you used some other method no?

I *think* I understand the question (finally).

You're referring to the radius at the edges. I do not own a router. I rough my radiuses in with a powered palm sander, then do the final shaping by hand with a sanding block and a set of templates I fabricated for that very purpose. The front edge of the top panel is pre-cut with a 25-degree bevel to match the break angle of the side panel thus speeding the fitting and finishing process along.

Sorry for my misinterpretation.

Arjay
