The volume pot is tied directly to the B-side grid of V1, a dual-triode 7025.

Possible marginal tube there or a decaying solder joint on the tube socket itself. Inspect for evidence of thermal degradation and any carbon-comp resistors in the adjacent area which may appear "crispy".

Hi! I wonder why you cannot figure the year of the PR? What about transformer dates, choke date codes, speaker date codes,
chassis stamp codes, chassis serial numbers, Pot date codes, etc.? What do those numbers/date codes say? Toppscore :)
Well, once I opened it up it became easy. It's dated on the inside (February 23, 1972) and signed by the person who built it I guess. Also, transformer codes, etc. support 1972 as the year.

Thanks, I was losing sleep.
So, how is your 1972? I have never owned a Princeton.

Glad I could help your insomnia...the 72 princeton is exactly what I was looking for - sounds good at low volumes, can even turn it up enough to overdrive it without the neighbors calling the cops, the overdrive is sort of loose and creamy ( I know, not a good description) - thing is, the amp can go from clean ringing tones for "Behind Blue Eyes" arpeggios to creamy overdrive ala "China Grove". (I'm old, what can I say...)

"Duane-ish" tones await if you plug a Les Paul into a Princeton Reverb......

Duane Allman would use a Princeton quite a bit when recording according to Gregg,I would bet it would have been a tweed or brown amp mostly, but could have been a PR also....I think that was around the time he was at Muscle Shoals.
I'm sure you do get some Duane-ish tones from that RJ,beautiful guitar and amp! :D

Reb...Not just during the Muscle Shoals time frame...used extensively during the Derek & The Dominos Layla recording and well documented by Tommy Dowd! And Dowd commented on coming in to record and expecting to see Clapton with huge Marshall amps and instead he was using a tweed champ and a Strat...Dowd commented on EC Coming full circle!

And sounds like it is time to crank up some EC and Duane ala D&TD!

I did try the LP (Traditional, Gold Top) and it sounds awesome with the PR. But, the Grosh EJ with G90's was even better. Couldn't put it down...have to get a new strat, see how that sounds.

I have a '57 Les Paul Jr......with the Princeton Reverb it's about as ballsy as it gets.

Arjay, hadn't played my LPS in awhile. Combination bad shoulder & boat anchor of a guitar. I recently bought a bunch of K40Y-9 caps. Ever try these in any of your guitars? Very much like the more $$$ Jupiters.

What a range of tone that guitar has! And those Russian PIO's really makes the tone a whole lot better. I was playing it through my Super Reverb. Will try it on my PR.

I put the Sprague Bumble Bees in my LP along with RS Superpots...big improvement on the ability to use the pots. They work nicely through the full range. Those LP's do weigh a lot. Never thought it would bother me, but lately it does. Get a Grosh EJ. Light and with the G90's it roars, or gives you beautiful cleans if you want them. Lots of tonal variation with those guitars...and the quality is just amazing
