Thank you for the pedal tips. I'll check them out.

Also, I am trying to break away from an all BOSS pedal setup. The pedals that I mentioned in a prior post are being housed in a Boss BCB-60 pedal board. Are there any recommendations of a more generic pedal board that will accommodate a mixture of pedals from different manufacturers.

Thanks!

Tony

I make my own pedal boards out of kitchen cutting boards:

While not my current configuration, its pretty close. The Fender switch as well as the little A/B switch in the lower right have been replaced with a Big Shot A/B/Y, an E-H LPB-1, and Boss Fender 63 Reverb pedal.

Hey Bill, how do you like that EHX LPB-1?

I had one of those "back in the day" but it plugged straight into a guitar's output jack (a real sonofabitch to use with my '64 SG Standard or a Strat).

IIRC, the LPB-1 was EHX's first commercial product.

I had one of the original LPB-1s also! It was a real PITA to plug into.  I used it with a no-name Les Paul Deluxe copy. It was the reason I designed my own op amp booster amp/active tone control in college that fit inside the LP. :D

The one I have now is pretty good. I use it with my AVRI 52 Tele with the Seymour Duncan Vintage Stacks to drive my modded Champion 600 into nice OD. The SDs aren't as loud as the SCNs on my Strat or my humbuckers, so the Tele needs a little boost. I only need to run it at 9:00 to get some extra grunt. Helps the mids also with the Tele bridge.

Indeed!

Ultimately, the plug broke off of mine and I used it as partial trading material for Gibson Maestro Phaser (the one with the colored rocker switches and could mount to a mic stand). I think the guitar-mounted LPB-1's passed from the scene pretty quickly since shortly thereafter the footswitchable model appeared.

How do the new silicon-driven EHX devices stack up against the original germanium designs?

That was 40+ years ago! I don't remember what I had for breakfast yesterday, let alone what a germanimum transistor sounded like.

I use the rule of 6's as a starting point with my 65 deluxe reverb reissue. i also do this with my 71 super reverb and it always gets me close to what i want and i can make little adjustments depending on the guitar im using and the room i'm in.

basically on the Super Reverb and Hot Rod Deluxe III it is:

volume - 6
treble - 6
mid - 3
bass - 2 (2x3=6)

reverb - to taste

on the 65 Deluxe

Volume - 6
Highs - 6
Lows - 3

The "rule of 6" can be applied to most Fender blackface and silverface amps, whether vintage or re-issue. The amp's speaker brand and type should also be considered when tweaking tone to fit a specific venue.
