Hello,

I am a new owner of a Fender ’65 Deluxe Reverb amp . Can anyone provide a resource or Web location for suggested Deluxe Reverb settings (clean, crunch, distortion? Also, suggested best practices for using both the Normal and Vibrato channels with the end result of a having a clean sound in one channel and distortion sound in the other channel.

Thank you,
Tony

Your own ears are the best resource for determining the sound that you like. What sounds great to me may sound like a broken down garbage truck to you.

Are we talking about a Deluxe Reverb Reissue here?
Like Bill said, tone is subjective,I listened to a guy who played in a band before us last Sat. night play a Les Paul through a DR Reissue, and although he got a decent tone it didn't float my boat.
I own three DRs,a '65,'66,and a '67...the '66 has the best tone to my ears....they are vintage amps though,I don't have any experience with the new ones, some of the guys here do.
What you should find out though is that the tone will fatten as the amp is driven more, and get warmer,it should sustain well and get some singing leads....we're talking around 4 to 6 on the volume, especially on the vibrato channel #2,I keep my treble around 6 or 7,and bass from 5 to 7 on the amp....and I use Strats, that's a good starting point and tweaking it will get good results.
Distortion that you mention will be mostly output and not as much pre amp buzz that a lot of high gain amps have.
have fun!

+1, Reb.

As well, the importance of a carefully-selected speaker cannot be over-emphasized.

I've been happy with 6's across the board...but the room you play in has a lot to do with the tone as well so ymmv. Not to mention what style you play.

Thanks all for the great comments. Yes, the ear makes the final determination as to what sounds best. However, tried and true "best practice" setting can be a good starting point.

I am excited about this '65 Deluxe Reverb, and eager to find that sweet spot where the amp is singing.

Thanks,
Tony

Hello,

I've been using a Hot Rod Deluxe prior to a few days ago, when I got the Fender '65 Deluxe. I am using the following BOSS pedals:

From L-R in My BOSS Pedal Board
CH-1: Super Chorus | Digital Metalizer (no longer made) | Blues Driver | CS-3: Compression Sustainer | TU-2 Tuner

Are there any pedals that stand out (BOSS or non-BOSS) that sound great with the Deluxe? I'm looking for a clean (amp only), crunch, and distortion.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Tony

I use the Fulltone OCD with all three of my Deluxe Reverb's and it delivers a nice glassy boost if I keep the controls at the 12 o'clock position (or lower). And I have a Radial Big Shot A/B/Y to give these amps true channel-switching capability.

I've found that the Paul Cochrane Timmy, Barber Direct Drive, and Keeley The Fuzz all play very well with all of my Fenders. I use the Timmy for grit, Direct Drive for crunch, the Fuzz for fuzz (duh). I have a Keeley Katana booster after them to give me a lead boost on any setting.

I also have a Keeley-modded TS-9 Tube Screamer that sounds good on 6V6 amps, unusable on 6L6 amps. It's relegated to practice duty or if someone needs a dirt pedal in rehearsals.

Overdrives are like potato chips; everyone has their favorite flavor, and you can't be satisfied with just one...

Thank you for the pedal tips. I'll check them out.

Also, I am trying to break away from an all BOSS pedal setup. The pedals that I mentioned in a prior post are being housed in a Boss BCB-60 pedal board. Are there any recommendations of a more generic pedal board that will accommodate a mixture of pedals from different manufacturers.

Thanks!

Tony
