Here's another one... When I plug my twin reverb in, the pilot lite comes on, but, I still have to flip the standby on to get er goin! do I need a new power switch? and, if so, can I use a home depot look alike? or should I find one on line? thanks!

You can use any good quality SPST switch as long as it has a high enough current rating.

The OP sounds confusing. :?

Try turning the power switch off before plugging in. Both switches off, plug in to electricity, switch power on (pilot light comes on), then after a warm up period switch standby to on. Having to turn the standby switch on is normal procedure, and has nothing to do with the power switch.

I initially thought the same thing, but after reading the post a couple of times I started to think that the power switch is in the off position but the pilot light still came on when the amp is plugged in. I decided to give the OP the benefit of the doubt.

Yeah, I'm with you guys. But it might be the case, that the switch is not functioning, correctly. So it's always in the"on" position. You know what I mean? The contacts may not be opening and closing the circuit. Then it's just an R&R, Ric. Art

So did I. This seems odd in that the switch is broken in the on position. Not that it can't happen but odd to me none the less.

Internal short due to arcing of the contacts?

The OP needs to return and clarify his post if he expects any help from us.

I would expect something like; "The pilot light is on even when the power switch is turned off", or something like that. The fact that the OP mentioned "I still have to flip the standby on to get er goin", lead me to believe that maybe he didn't understand the switches. He didn't mention trying the power switch.

Sounds goofy to suspect, but my experience has shown that this happens sometimes. I have had more than a few calls of non-functioning equipment, only to discover that the equipment wasn't even plugged in to electricity.

I remember a story about a person calling tech support when a brand new computer didn't work. The tech went through the setup step by step, and when he asked about the connections on the back of the computer, the customer said that it was too dark and couldn't see the back of the computer. When the tech asked if the customer could turn on a light to shine on the back of the computer, the customer said that no lights were working because the power was off in the house. The tech told the customer to box up the computer and return it to the store. The customer asked; "Is the problem with the computer that serious?", and the tech said "no, but you're too stupid to own a computer." :o :!:

Now this is just a story, and I am not saying that anyone is stupid, but we all sometimes overlook the obvious and simple things.

But, yes, if the pilot light is on whether the power switch is flipped on or off, then it is likely a bad power switch.

For example, clicking "New Topic" instead of "Post Reply".

Does anything change when you flip the power switch to the other position, on or off?
