These have a nice, Fender-like tone. The Mullard RI 12AX7's are good for a more midrange tone. They seem to be nice in Vox & Marshall's.

Slightly off topic but how do you like the amp? I don't think I've ever even seen a Deluxe Reverb II. How does it compare to other Fender amps?

I have thrown in those miniwatts and what a change! So much tighter! But I did discover that my at7 is a nameless Chinese valve that I think is a poor quality.

As far as how I like it - I think it's a fantastic clean channel amp, every bit the iconic fender tone but the dirty channel leaves a lot to be desired. I haven't played with it recently and with a new set of valves it all might change but the distortion sound is just disappointing. That is unless you crank the clean to 5 and above (with humbuckers) - then there is a beautiful crunch distortion that really get a singing quality when I throw a boost and a distortion pedal in front.

I don't think I'll ever sell this amp. The clean sounds are just that good. As to other fender amps I think that it is right up there with all those other fender classics, my dad is getting a deluxe reverb reissue so I'll be able to do a comparison between the two if you like?
