Is it that chrome strip around the grill on the early silverface amps?

Correct.

Actually the trim is polished aluminum extrusion that's electro-coated with gray ferrous-oxide primer then anodized silver, as with this '68 Bronco Amp......

The proximity to older blackface models demonstrates the dramatic contrast in cosmetics. The drip-edge silverface amps began to appear in the spring of 1967 and continued throughout the '68 model year. In 1969 the grill-cloth colors changed slightly and the silver moldings began to disappear from some models. By 1970 only a handful remained and this featured was deleted altogether by the end of the year.

The drip-edge did reappear many years later on the George Foreman grill.
