Anyone know how to get rid of the smoke smell every time the amp goes on. The tubes are new but the heat from the amp creates a little tobacco smelling Glade plug in. Not serious but annoying.

How long has it been away from smoke?...if it stays away for a long time it will eventually go away mostly.
I don't like it because I quit smoking years ago,but tonight my gear goes back into a smoky bar for a gig, after a couple of days it will get better...just in time to do it again.
oh yeah I almost forgot..I keep a fresh dryer sheet in the bottom,it helps to mask the odor.

It has been away from smoke for years. It seems the smell is embedded in the thing.

It's there forever......part of the "mojo" mystique.

Man up and live with it.

Or dump it.

Those are your only options.

Yep,if it's been years Arjay's right....it's become mojo.
Nowadays, people spend bou-cou dollars to buy roadworn Strats, and brand new amp grill cloth that's yellowed to simulate years of barroom gigging wear and tear....but it is false mojo...doesn't have the mystique he mentioned....doesn't make the gear or the players something they're not....seasoned.
The smell is part of what made that amp what is,vintage. :D

Ok I will man up. The amp's sweet sound over rides its acrid smell. :)

When I got my Vibrolux Reverb,it stunk!...smelled to me like it had been in a garage where dogs were....it's taken awhile for that smell to leave,so the smoke at gigs smell better than that and the amp sounds amazing,so like you,I had to man up and last it out.

Organic......"emissions"......are much easier to eliminate or minimize than the ravages of nicotine. That stuff permeates every nook and cranny, every component of porous composition, even the speaker cones and the lumber of the enclosure.

Tolex, steel, and plastic are much easier to deterge than wood, paper, or grill cloth. Do what you can and try the dryer-sheet-in-the-bottom-of-the-cabinet method......it's sure to help to some degree.

...is it a SFPR? If it is and that was my amp...sorry! That amp must wreak. We consumed a variety of tobaccos around that amp. At times, the amp was enveloped in smoke.

Take the speaker(s) out of the cabinet and put an apple core or two into the cabinet and leave the amp with the apple cores in it in a cool, dry place over night. You may have to wrap the amp with the cores in it to get the full effect. Put the speaker near a few apple cores in a cool dry place like a closet shelf. The apple core should draw out the tobacco aromatics. It may take a few nights to get the smell to subside. Then, find an aroma you like and put a drop of aroma oil in the corners of the amp, fire it up -- should smell nice!

If you have a good nose and can still smell a hint of tobacco after all that, leave the amp in direct sun for a bit on a hot day, not too long. Just enough to get the tobacco oils to go volatile and evaporate.

Ever hear of "ANTS"?

Why not toss a couple of Big Mac wrappers and some Fig Newtons inside while you're at it?

As well, aromatic oils contain esters which will act as enzymes to weaken aging glue joins in a wooden cabinet's corners.

And exposing fragile 40+ year-old grill cloth to direct UV rays from the sun is not a prudent course of action.

I neither recommend nor condone any of this......"therapy".

No, NY!

I am healthy after all that smoking -- thank you for your concern!

Did you know that people who smoke cigarettes and marijuana live 2 to 8 years longer than people who don't? And, did you know that people who smoke just marijuana live up to 24 years longer than people who don't smoke marijuana???

Looks like smokers typically live about 18 years less.

Only if they don't consume marijuana. If you consume marijuana, you gain years.

Tobacco alone will kill you, but not because of the tobacco, you die due to radiation poisoning. Tobacco is radiated, and there is a direct correlation between when tobacco started being radiated and lung cancers! In a recent study, however, UCLA 2006/2007, smoking marijuana lessens the damage to the lungs from pollution, including tobacco!

So, you are partially correct -- but the devil is in the details!

Back to amplifiers

I am blessed to have a huge sun porch on the back of my house with huge screen panels, When I get smokey smelling stuff, it lives out there for a few days, gets rid of about 90 % of the smell every time.

a few breezy days and its all gone ! well mostly.

I've been an ex smoker for about twelve years now, No Marry Jane since Oct 1983
Don't miss either, however I still make a lot of money from pot, every time some knuckle head get busted with it in his and or her pocket they pay me 150 bucks to get out of jail .

Dopers ya gotta love em !!!! at least while they are making my paycheck
