First thing you do when you open the box on a speacial 6 from VHT is to open her up and grab the tubes inside and toss em in the trash !

No doubt the makers knew this and put the very cheapest pieces of junk in there they could.

I put a NOS sylvania or RCA 6V6GT and a nice 5751 in the pre amp and I have a very sweet sounding amp head, I lurked around e-bay for about a month and found an "opened box" one and paid 150 including shipping, I've paid more for a pedal many times !
The things weighs a couple pounds and sounds great !

I am still pondering the idea of going in for some of the tone stack mods.

By the way, I spotted that Chinese champ for 119.99 in AMS.

The Champion 600 is no longer listed on the Fender website. I think this has happened within the last week. Meaning they are being discontinued and the remaining units will be selling for ridiculous prices. All of this confirms why Guitar Center was selling these for $99 during Christmas 2010.

There are a couple of low-cost mods you can do that really help this little charmer. Change the grill cloth to something less baby-blanket like and put in some good tubes. I actually have a used RCA 6V6 in mine (circle logo) and a JJ in mine.

For a bit more cash - others have changed out the speaker and have done mods to the circuit.

Mine sits in my office where I can crank it up if needed.

I have a Mustang I and it's a perfectly satisfactory amp. I'll bet I could post several mp3's of me noodling around on guitar using various amps and no one here could tell which is SS (modeling or otherwise) and which is tube.

You bought yourself a SS amp, your happy with it, good for you !

We have had a few of you ss fellas come in here and try your best to convince yourself
That a Solid State Modeling amp sounds as good as a vintage tube amp.

Dude your in the wrong spot for that !

Don't get bent, just understand most of the guys here have been in the music bizz for a long time, heard all the hype about SS and modeling and darned if we don't just keep coming back to this old technology, funny most pro's on the stages and recording studios do too.

So if your trying to feel good about your SS modeling amp, find yourself a group of like minded buddies, this group is a hard core Tube lov'n bunch of geezers.

You'll take my sweet tube tone away when you pry it from my cold dead fingers !!!!

Really man,we don't care what you use,but we like the vintage amps, and some of us gig with them also...but I agree with what blues bondsman said, don't come here and try to convince us that we're so damn deaf that we haven't heard the difference in live settings and stuck with our tube amps to get the sound we prefer....you do likewise, and good luck.
Many of us,myself included have started with tube amps, used SS amps, other brands and have come full circle back to Fender vintage tube amps, that's what we love....and we're some serious tone hounds! :D

I guess it should be pointed out that this is the "Vintage Guitar Amplifiers (anything before 1985)" forum, so there is probably not a lot of love for solid state amps in general (although I have a Frontman 25R with fantastic cleans) and Mustangs in particular.

However, there is this forum for Mustang amps:

It's hard to develop any logical perspective on the topic when one's experience is limited only to flogging some piddlyass transistorized POS once a week at an hour-long Sunday service for the local holy rollers.

If God had intended for guitarists to rely on silicon for amplification, He wouldn't have invented the 6L6GC.

Logical perspective? Like that BS formula you posted?

Don't misunderstand me. My favorite amp is the Princeton Reverb.

But I get tired of the nonsense that's constantly put out there about tube amps. It's more religious than anything I've seen at church on Sunday morning. And the BS is put out there by musicians that have been playing professionally for decades. But it's still BS. And when I read the BS from you or anyone else on here I'll challenge you on it.

Did not mean to cause any static by posting this! I too am a tube man. I would not dare to try to talk anyone out of using tube amps! Tube rules but I also appreciate SS. I have nine amps. Three are SS and six are tube. The vintage ones I have, two are tube, and one is SS.

About once a month or so some ninny comes in here trash talking.

Same result as usual, after a good flogging we just ignor them and they pass into obscurity.

P.S. I'm a holy Roller If thats what you call someone who is dedicated to God and His Word.

Have a nice day !

"BS"?

I've repaired/reconditioned more Fender amps in the last year than you've owned in your entire life.

So you go ahead, cupcake.

Challenge away.
