I'm brand new to Fender Lounge,

Anyway, I have bought a Fender Super Six Reverb today.

But it's a 2x10 combo with a 2x10 extension cab that clips on beneath the combo.

Now my question, is this a Fender factory production or has someone cut-down a 6x10 in to a 2x10 combo + 2x10 extension?

All I have found on these are the 6x10 combos.

Good question - all I can remember are the 6-10 models - and these :

The cab has undoubtedly been cut down to a more practical size. One issue that should be considered is the impedance of the modified speaker array. The original 6 x 10 configuration represented a 5.3-ohm load -- your speaker output jacks on the amp's real panel will be so marked (in actuality, a 4-ohm output tranny from a Twin Reverb was used). The speakers themselves were 16-ohms each, wired in series parallel. These speakers are the same as used in the Super Reverb -- a 25-watt voice coil, usually an alnico CTS. As such, with only two speakers connected, the amp (with its 100- or 135-watt output) will be more than capable of frying those two drivers, even with the impedance mismatch. I recommend prudence when turning the volume control beyond "5" or so. Adding the 2 x 10 extension cabinet will bring the overall output load to 4 ohms and double the power-handling capability. However, if the amp is the ultra-linear 135-watt variant there still exists some risk to the speakers under extreme volume conditions.

Ok, I know the posible impedance problem. But if the speakers were wired different could it bring it closer to the 4 (5.2) ohms?
The combo and cab both have male xlr jacks for connection. If it has been cut down then it was done so very well. And if so, then it's an even better than stock super six. I've always wanted a 2x10 fender combo. And this has an extension 2x10 making it 4x10 like a bassman! I have an original Blues Deville 2x12 but much prefer the 10" speaker.

If I knew how to post a photo of my super six, I would.

It is the 100w model. Every thing seems to work except the tremolo. I bought it without hearing it so that's quite alright. Considering what I paid for it!

Tremolo operation on these amps requires a footswitch or a shorting plug inserted into the tremolo footswitch jack. Unlike the reverb -- which is always "on" -- the tremolo is always "off".

As far as it sounding like a 4 x 10 Bassman, forget it. The only thing that sounds like a 4 x 10 Bassman is a 4 x 10 Bassman. The chassis architecture between the two amps is completely different.

Fender 2 x 10 combos are great sounding amps; many of us here have one or more. My only concern with yours is that the speakers are up to the challenge of handling such brutishly available power. Contemporary speakers such as Eminence's Copperhead or Ragin' Cajun will have no problem absorbing such abuse -- vintage CTS's or Oxford's, less so.

Yes very true to never sound like a bassman. But speaker configuration is where my mind was. Mind you an old jtm45 with jensens can be quite similar. (jtm45 or bluesbreaker being the only marshal I would own these days.

But this Super Six smashes my Blues Deville tone wise!!

What is this shorting plug? As I've noticed the jack for trem or reverb switching is not a 1/4"?

Shorting plug for your amp is a RCA phono plug with both wires ( plus and minus ) connected together making a close circuit or a short.
This will start the tremolo.

Right Timmy, it would just be a regular RCA , like video lines. If you strip the wires and connect the two internal conductors(wires) together, you'll have the shorted plug. That's all the vibrato needs to activate the circuit. The 4X10 set-up seems great! But Arjay and Sratele are spot-on about the impedance and wattage requirements. If you can get a hold of a volt meter, to check the speakers, that would be great. Art

Fantastic, thanks guys. I'll make a shorting RCA tomorrow and try out the trem. Oh boy, I caint wait to hear it! Hope these old silver face trems sound as sweet as the rest of the signal path of the super six.

I can't believe I bought this amp so cheap!
How do I post a photo on here?

Ok well I decided not to wait till tomorrow to try the trem.
I think I may have to get used to its sound. The short plug only has little power running through it right? As I didn't insulate the end.
The more I look closely the more signs i notice of a cab cut-down. It seams the two 10" speakers in the combo are wired in series. Not sure what ohms this will make..

I have to admit..I have played many many valve amps, but only from mid '80s onwards, but I never thought I was missing out on too much untill this silver face!

Yeah man, just tape the end junction with electrical tape(for now). Are the speakers 16 or 8ohm? Art
