ok, the picture wouldn't help so here's a diagram

basically 1 wire to both positives, and 1 wire to both negatives...

what is the ohm load? is this series or parallell?

tbh, it's been so long, I THOUGHT I had wired it differently, with 1 wire going to 1 speaker's positive, and the other going to the other speakers negative, and a jumper wire in between...

Your drawing depicts a parallel wiring configuration.

Assuming that each speaker is rated for 8 ohms, the total system impedance represents a 4-ohm load. Which is precisely what your Tremolux wants to see.

Do attenuators suck tone and jumpering.

It might but I can't say for sure, I never play the amp full out anyway. What you won't get is the scream of your tortured speaker cones being pushed, which is part of the nice tone of a full bore amp being driven.

Jumpering is easy. Plug your guitar into the first input of the normal channel. Then run a short cable, like the ones used to connect pedals, from the second input of the normal channel to the first input of the bright channel. You can mix the 2 channels sound together with this set up (Normal and bright at the same time) This is easier than a Y adapter and if you don't like it, you are not stuck with a cable, but I am sure you will like it. This also works with marshall amps like the 50 watt plexi reissue but won't work with stock 60's era blackface reverb fender amps as the channels are out of phase with each other. It might not work on some others but I don't know which ones.

I run a THD 4 ohm attenuator and I jumper the 2 channels on my 62 tremolux.

yea, it had been so long that I had forgotten how I even wired it :)

I'm sure these speakers are still not optimum though. they served me well when I was gigging in college with a metal/punk band, but they are not ideal for the cleaner tones I seek now... now my pedal gain is as 2-3, not 8-10...

I will look into the webers mentioned.

I googled the channel jumpering and plan to try that tonight! I'm stoked!

I use a Radial Big Shot A/B/Y footswitch to drive both amp channels (or to drive two separate amps). It has a built-in phase selector which rotates one input signal 180 degrees for use with reverb-equipped Fenders. And with the footswitch capability, it permits independently setting up a dual-channel amp's volume and tone controls for different sounds then accessing them to suit a particular song or passage within a song. It also has switchable ground lift and an isolation transformer to prevent a shock hazard when connecting two independent amps. It's the best $75 I ever spent on a stompbox.

+1 on the RBS A/B/Y. I learned about it on this forum and use it to connect two amps. I use a Y-cable to connect the Normal and Bright inputs of my 5F6A clone. I find it sounds better than using a jumper between the sets of inputs.

ok, I haven't had a chance to play until today... had to wait for the wife to leave the house, and work to be quiet so I could jumper the amp and see what's what...

I gotta say, jumpering is kinda cool... the amp kinda got a little breakup, which normally it has to be on deafening levels to get from one channel, the mids seemed more scooped with the bass and treble both stronger... it also seemed like I got a bit of attenuation, not much, but a little cut in the db level... wish I had known about jumpering 20 years ago :)

all that said, I love this amp. but never getting to enjoy it unless the house is empty is pissing me off... I'm seriously considering selling it, buying something more in the 5-20 watt range that can drive 1x12 well enough... something with a master volume or a built in power sponge, maybe... when I was in college, I gigged occasionally, and could justify keeping it... now it just doesn't get used much... I use my Peavey vypyr more because I can get tones at low volumes that are pleasing without shaking the walls. or even use the headphone jack when the wife is asleep or watching a movie... plus, we are starting a family and well, the extra cash wouldn't hurt.

I want to bring it up here where you guys really know how great the amp is/can be.

what does a '64 tremolux head(I never had the matching cabinet) in 100% original condition fetch on the open market? ideally I'd replace the amp with something smaller, but probably more modern, and have some cash left over.
