You could always put some tie-dye material on it and claim that it was once owned by Jack Casady of the Jefferson Airplane......

A little update on project 2x12

I have an Eminence Red fang alnico coming (used) from Clark Amplification.
He said it was a bench test speaker got it for less than half of a new one.

So it will be a C-Rex & the fang to brighten up the cab a bit, if that does not work the C-rex will be replaced by a 12A150 Weber.

The speaker will arrive tomorrow, so long to the old peavey thats been in there !
Mud city !

It is done !!!
Well with the exception of the correct Fender logo for the Cab and maybe the correct pop off casters, The ones that I got it with were not original, they were connected with 3" wood screws.
This cab didn't have casters from the factory (no evidence of them).

That last repair 1.5 K resistors made her quiet as you can possible expect from 50 watts of sweet tube amp and thats very quiet indeed !

The C-Rex & Red fang Combo punch you right in the chest at about 2.3 on the volume dial, Nice bouncy spank !!! Just what i wanted !!!!
P.S. thats with a lot of route 66 comp too (no O/D) don't need it !

That little white Tele with the Texas Special CS pickups, into the route 66 comp and the Cmatmods Signa drive with the gain at its lowest setting all that into the Bassman and my 2x12 cab.

Closest thing to perfect Texas Rock/Blues sound I have ever heard !

The strat sounds good too, however those CS pickups and that Tele twang sure do add some sweet spice to that sound!

The bandmaster has a little softer touch, a little less spank, but it has its own special sound too.

I'm was gonna keep one and sell off the other, but and its a big un, both amps have their own sound and i like them both, so..........

Keep them!

I have three Bandmasters -- they're each configured differently and they each have their own specific sonic vibe. You can never have too many vintage Fenders!

Now I just need a 66 champ or something along those lines.

I had a 66 vibro champ a few years back, sorry I sold it !

I have a pair of CTS 15" 8 ohm alnicos coming today for that Traynor cab I got a few days ago, if they don't have the sound I want I'll pull the 2x15 baffle and start making a 4x10 to fit it.

I could buy a peavy classic 50 cab 4x10 for under 200, however My guess is I would be swapping speakers anyway so.......
That traynor is a finger joint pine cab, built like a tank, I wish it were an inch wider, the bassman's feet slightly hang ove the edge.

No excuses its sloppy, but you get the idea

Check out the tone !!! Texas Custom Shop pickups in a 2008 MIM Standard Tele.

Tele into Route 66 Comp only into 67 Bassman, no OD of any kind.

Its just noodeling guys, however its such a nice tone.

P.S. the strings are Ernie B all Nickle, Kinda digging the tone a little better than the pink package slinkies i generaly use.

Sweet! :D

Nice Tele pop, but also a very Strat-like wonderful sound. Excellent tone for sure. :!: Nice playing too.

I have always liked the Bassman, and thought that it would be one of the amps to have. I've been looking at a drip edge Bassman head and matching cab (an AB165 according to the tube chart).

As much as I enjoyed it, your demo doesn't help my gas at all.

Disregard the tube chart and carefully examine the chassis, then compare it to an AB165 schematic. Any Bassman's manufactured after May of 1968 will be the AC568 revision. FMI/CBS would continue to use outdated tube charts on all Fender amps well beyond the date that their circuits were superceded. And despite the rampant anti-silverface hype, the AC568 still made for a pretty good Bassman so don't let that deter your interest.

 Thanks for the info Retroverbial

You know, that's exactly what I told the amp's owner, a friend of mine, and he thinks that I'm just trying to get him to lower the price. He's asking $600 for the head and cab, and it looks to be in great condition, except that it is covered with filth/dust and has been sitting in the corner unused for many years. I thought that it was a 67, but not fully sure. If I acquire it, I will definitely take it apart for a checkup before even playing.

As you've described it, $600 seems to be a righteous price.

Let us know how the negotiations progress.

Ya Shimmilou, go for it !

I've got a few extra 470 ohm and 1.5K metal oxide 2 watt resistors left over from the bassman project.

My drip edge SF Bandmaster Reverb also sounds awesome ! all parts codes make it out to be a 1968.

I do think the Silverfaces up to the mid 70's are the bargain tone machines to chase right now, before the price skyrockets.

Ya ever get to the northern end of our fine state look me up !
My bail Company is A-1 Bail Bonding LaPorte IN, I live in Michigan City on the BIG lake.

The word is already out -- silverface prices have been creeping upward for the last eighteen months or so. Undoubtedly, it's due to the quality and cost of contemporary equipment. They're still relative bargains, but less so than during the run-up in prices for blackface models.
