Back to the bassman

It has a three prong plug, however the cap is still connected to the ground switch.
Not good right ? and whoever did the swap removed the accesory plug in the back.

I'm guessing snipping the cap would be a good idea ?

Thanks

Yes, you can bypass the ground switch. I recommend it. One less item to fail:

Thanks again fellas !!!!

between you guys and a half dozen books on tube amps I own, I got through this.

Now about that cap on the bias board, i have a tiny bit of background fuzz and a very small crackle, my wife coundn't hear any of it so, it aint much.

I didn't do the 470ohm resistors on the tube socket yet either, those are well known noise makers too, could be the problem, maybe ?

Other than that I'm in tone heavon !

Found an old marshall cab with 8x10 greenbacks, no word on a price yet.

Chris, I'd give the amp some 20-30 hours of use to stabilize. Then you might want to go through the tubes and plate(and screen) resistors. But if it sounds good, just play it ! JMHO, Art.....BTW good job!

I need to put the bias probe on it and check that too.

I wasn't real happy with how little of the wire ends went into the gromets, but it must have made a good connection and thats the way they were when they left fender 45 years ago.

Not that I can adjust the bias with that crazy hum balance circuit.

The "tech" who had it just prior to my purchase said he cleaned all of the tube sockets, my guess is that he might have caused a crack in a solder joint.

The baffle is trashed, however i wanted to convert it to 2x12 any way.
Tag on it says P12085
Young kids from Valporaiso IN had it in their punk band, i got it for 60 bucks as is.

It's my experience, that the Fullerton technique was a short insert with a curl, causing a mechanical contact with the eyelet. The solder is just a securing device. If I'm not mistaken, your stock power tube balance control will adjust one tube to match the other. So it's not as though you have no control. JMO Art

i pulled the grill cloth off the baffle and soaked it in a cleaner called Spray Nine, from my auto parts days.

Scrubbed it in a bath tube over and over and most of the peace sign is gone, the nicks and tears just give it character in my eyes, so the old stuff is going back on the new baffle (when i build it).

Pictures as i make progress, then the big question, what 50 watter will go along side a C-Rex ???
a 12A150 just hit e-bay, sadly it was a 4ohm speaker.
I like one ceramic and one alnico in the same cab.

P.S. the noise I was hearing after the re-cap was one of my 5751's in v-1 it rang like a churck bell when i flicked it, pulled it and went back to a 12AX7 (secret weapon NOS) and its as quiet as it can be ! and the punch is back !

Gotta get a good tube tester, Mine was junky and my buddies is all the way across town.

New baffle built (no center divider yet

Speakers installed (one is a temp till something better comes along)

scrubbed the living daylights out of the old grill cloth and applied it to the new baffle.
(maybe I'll get tired of the peace sign and get new cloth )

New input jack cup and presto !

Something close in age to the bassman head to play through.
