Here are a few things I learned today

My 20uf original caps were 500 volts dc not 525 see picture

90% of the under board wiring was capacitor leads (pretty smart !)

Hav'n FUN !!!

Cool stuff!

Glad that the 500 volt caps will be sufficient. :)

I know I already posted this, but be sure about the polarity of those caps before firing up the baby. A continuity test maybe a good thing to try first. The caps will charge-up using a DVM & amp off--- before reaching a steady-state resistance. Provided they are hooked up correctly. Incorrect hookup = instant disaster. Good luck!

This example is off a Pro.

All of the resistors had drifted, but less than 10% across the board.
Not bad for 45 year old stuff.

I'll triple check everything before i install the board again !!!

The mark of a pro......

Lead dress crisp and short
Components positioned for easy ID of both brand and specs
Frugal use of solder

Rawk on!

See if you can decipher a date on that P/T. I'm guessing late '40s or early '50s. Fender had a couple of amps back then with the O/T bolted directly to the speaker frame. The Dual Professional was one such model.

Chris, I don't think that cap is a mod,per se. But rather a replacement, with what someone had in the shop. The original was probably a solidcore-lead type. It runs to a terminal strip or the main filter can, then the OT center tap, right ? On my old guy that was a 30uf 600vdc Mallory. That type of construction can be challenging. Art

Chris,

First thing I'd do is try to find a schematic. They are on the NET.

http://www.harpamps.com/gibson/index.html

That is definitely a Field-Coil speaker with the output tranny mounted on the speaker's frame. These amps need to to be carefully checked for shorts and such, as many get put away in a closet after zapping Granny once-too-many times. :)

Check the required tubes. If you see any 35- or 25- prefix tube types... you maybe running a non-power transformer amp. These are potentially lethal. And a 1:1 isolation tranny must be inserted into the circuit to isolate it from the house current.

Good luck! Could be a cool project.

I'm thinking its gonna be a real cool speaker cab, LOL !

I'll e-bay off the field coil speaker and chassis to try and regain some of my (small) investment and my VHT has another cool low wattage cab.

Again it came with a sweet pair of RCA 6V6's , two 6sn7 pre amp tubes and a 5Y3 rectifier, probably worth the 100 bucks ?

Salvage is my game !
