the 470K resistors I had replaced ???

First with metal film then I got some Carbon Comps from new old sound
or am I missing something here ?
I think I got so much advice I lost my place or at least which chapter I was in

Any insight would be gladly accepted

Know what you mean, Chris! These would be the 100K resistors, located nearest the pre amp tube sockets. I counted 9 for your amp. These are all connected to pin 1 and pin 6 of these tubes. The 220K resistors, associated with the cicuits are also worth consideration, including the two connected to the power tube plates(pin 3). It's a shotgun approach, but I've found(since they are all the same vintage) this will take care the problem. Now, if you use the amp every day or so, the heat should burn off the moisture. And you could wait for failures, which is OK too. JMHO Art

The next rainy day I'll take the chassis back out and check it out.
Will they most likely be out of spec or is it possible for them to be in spec and still
cause static ?
I'm pretty sure I went through every resistor on the board and replaced anything way out.

I've got a massive garage sale in my neighborhood this weekend so, not much time to tinker around.

Yeah, they can still be within specs. It's just a matter of absorbing moisture and arcing within the component. This is just a suggestion, that concerns usual suspects, causing "snap-crackle-pop". Obviously, there are other possible sources. If the heat and often operation, relieve the problem, then there you go! Art

So, The culprit all along ???

A 100K Resistor in the pre amp circuit.

Now for the crazy part, it tested at 102K well within specs, but yet I pulled it with advice from our Most excellent guru's here and sure enough no more pops, crackles !!!

Yes !!!!!

its been a long road and I have learned a TON !!!

Thanks again to all who contributed to this experience.

And you got yourself a fully refurbished Bassman in the process. It should be good for a decade or more until any other routine maintenance is needed.

Rawk on!

3 thumbs up!

I wish I had the time you do to get my amp sorted but it'll get there. And now I have you to go to for help also... in fact you have already helped me when I wanted to install my grounded plug correctly. Now get loud!

Zero Sizzle my Brotha ! ZERO !!!

Its like a different animal all together without all that noise, I turned on the Bandmaster which i thought of as one of the quietest Tube Amps I've owned and compared the two, the bassman was just as noise free.

For me it is the tone of these old machines and the history, who knows where this old girl has been in the last 45 years ? I wish at times there were a way to document the original purchase and see who bought some of these amps originaly.

Just when I thought this thread might die.

I found another Bassman head ! this time looks like a 1966, which I find very cool since I'm a 1966 model myself.

One year older and yet the componants look so different, the circuit is layed out the same.
All the trannies are dated 1966 and the chassis is stamped 23666, I assume June 23 1966

The ink-stamped assembly date on the chassis actually indicates the 36th week of 1966, Chris. Check to see if the cabinet is dated (inside bottom edge, where the Tolex wraps around). A comparison to the chassis stamp may allow you to correlate and narrow the "birthday" down further.
