Hello
I recently acquired this amp and had a few questions for the forum. On the top of the amp it looks as if there was another tag or plate. It looks clean in a small section as if the plate fell off at one time. The other question is what the approximate value of the amp is. The amp powers up and sounds good I had to replace the power tubes but other than that it works. The speaker is not blown but I have been told I should replace it before it does. Is there any way to make the speaker usable with out re-coning it or is this something I should not worry about. I have included several pictures hopefully someone will know some or all of the answers.
Thanks in advance
Roger

Its an old, beat up amp worth very little. I'll give you $50 plus I'll pay for shipping.

Seriously though, here is some info about your amp:

http://ampwares.com/amplifiers/fender-n ... -vibrolux/

As far as value goes it could be worth around $1000 or more. I would get it checked out and play it for all its worth. :D

Welcome to the forum.

You can find technical information on your tweed Vibrolux here.

The spot on the top is probably from a tag someone put on the amp unrelated to its manufacture. Probably a name tag or such.

As long as the speaker sounds fine and you don't intend on cranking the volume, you should be fine. However a lot of people will pull the vintage speaker to preserve it. Same goes for the old 2-prong plugs and cords and other parts.

Tubes are not forever and its okay to replace them. You can typically find NOS (New Old Stock) tubes. Most people prefer those older tubes. You can typically find those at Antique Electronic Supply

The Tweed amps are pretty desirable. Gbase.com is where a lot of dealers post their wares. There are a few tweed Vibroluxs on there right now.....

The 2011 Vintage Guitar Price Guide lists the tweed Vibrolux (1956-1961) between $2,400-$2,900 (excellent condition)

If the tube chart is still present inside the cab, there should be two letter code that will tell you the month and year the amp left the Fender factory.

Personally - I wouldn't worry about playing this amp. If you have concerns, let a respected amp tech take a look at it.

Congrats on the amp. Thanks for the photos.

Very nice!
That could have been a music store sticker or tag on the top of the amp, seen several before.
The speaker is cool and probably sounds good, but if you want to play it and get some great overdrive sound,I would replace it with a good modern one,I like Webers, and don't have great luck with originals....I just recently blew 2 CTS alnicos in a BF Vibrolux Reverb halfway through the first song at a gig. :x

Thanks Guys
I was playing through a line 6 tone port into a Yamaha studio monitor and never even thought I would buy another amp much less one like this but it just happened along one day and got a once in a lifetime deal. Thanks for all the info. I have a buddy with a jenson speaker out of a newer Princeton that I am going to try out and if it does do what I want I have already looked into the weber speaker and will probably go this route.
