I was fortunate enough to get some GE 6CA7 tubes. These work great in those amps that push EL34 type output tubes to the max. Much better than most modern made EL34. And even some "boutique" 6CA7. Hard to find, though. Took me a good two years to find three NOS sleeves. But, this is one tube that can take JCM 800 and 900 Lead head unit abuse.

Seems like you've been on a NOS Buying Binge. :D

Are you finding these locally or ebay?

Phansford, mostly from guys on other boards. Many are hi-fi nuts, some with guitar amps. If you are lucky, a buncha nice new ones pop out of nowhere. I guess my luckiest snatch was 200 Mullard made GZ34. Sold 100 to a guy in AZ. 50 to ppl on the Net. Kept 50. Now it's down to 12 or so, after all the amp fixes.

Got the 200 from a man in Germany. Who "found" it in a crate within a German Air Force hanger. They all had Bundeswehr stickers on the boxes. This was the year 2000. Cost was $450 with shipping for all 200.

Keep you guys informed about any other crazy NOS tubes floating about.

Note: a little birdie told me "Baldwin" yellow-labeled, black plate 12AX7(A) are Raytheon made. Several on EBay now. Go for high testing, guaranteed low-noise.

Might not be a bad idea to put together a list of valves that my various amps use and start stocking up on some older glass.

Yeah Man, You're the guy! Keep us posted. If you're interested in letting one of those GZ34's go, let me know. Art
