I'm knocked out that this thread still lives! I love those piggy back set ups for a VC. I'm figuring these amps are so classic that, people just get excited about posting about them. I've ran my VC through a Celestion 12" cab a little while ago and, it sounds pretty decent. In the future I could see me getting another VC or even a Champ. They are getting harder to find unless you go through fleabay. I've never used it but, someday I might. I just don't like Paypal. I used them once and, they screwed my account up. First impressions with them was terrible, I'm talking about Paypal not fleabay.

My '78.

It has a Jensen C8R now as the original was ripped when I bought it.

I registered to post pix of my VC. I got it about 8 years ago. It's 4 years older than me, made in 1964.

I'll upload some better pix later.

I changed speaker to a weber of some sort(I cannot remember the model). It sounds great. The piggyback rigs here look awesome. I'll be looking into a head/cab conversion now.

Schweet looking BFVC! I wouldn't re-cab it...just wrong to do that to a beautiful BF amp...find a good Silver Face Vibro Champ to mod.

This thread has me considering a 212 cab for my Champ in the future. I am looking at the Avatar website for a pine cab (though perhaps it doesn't matter so much where the cab comes from), loaded with a pair of Weber 12F150 8 ohm, 25w, light dope would probably serve nicely.

I found out recently (when I had started this thread I did not have good reading glasses!) that my VC actually had all the OEM tubes except for the Russian 6V6. The preamps are made in USA marked also with "Fender" 7025 tubes. I'm still running all JJ 6V6S in it right now and, they sound beefy. The JJ 6V6S is a good tube to my ears. I'll have to put in the RCA 5Y3 and the 7025 tubes back in with the JJs. Along with the Jensen P8R it should sound interesting.

As 12AX7 types go, there are few better then the RCA 7025. Esp in Fender amps.

Mine is a date code NJ Production #1 1964 with a serial number A00163. This makes it # 63 off the line in October of 1964. Although I SWEAR I read somewhere that production started at the end of August of that year.
It has original Victoria luggage case and single button footswitch. I had the speaker re-coned and the caps and tubes replaced about 10 years ago. Sounds perfect. Interested to know if anyone knows of a lower serial on this model. There were 62 lower and I bet many of those went home with employees.
