Indeed......!

The eminently-practical concept -- taken to its ultimate, logical conclusion.

Bear in mind, the Vibro Champ's output tranny is wound for a 4-ohm (actually, a 3.2-ohm) secondary. Thus, a pair of your favorite 8-ohm speakers wired in parallel will go well with it.

Rawk on!

You're trying to get me to build a nice cab huh? Not a bad idea Arjay! I'm on this low-watt kick right now and, loving it! I like to see what my 6 watt VC could do through two 8 ohm drivers. A couple of ten inch speakers, could also do something nutty like have one with ALNICO magnet and, the other just a nice ceramic speaker! Is that too crazy?

I don't think so.

But then again, I'm someone who's been called a "genius" and a "jerk-off" by the same person......in the same sentence.

I took a bit of a risk and bought a 1965 Jensen C8R speaker off of Craig's List for my '66 VC. It's a pull from an old Hammond organ, I think. It looks brand new. It must have been a church organ. It's got a black frame and it's stamped 4 OHMS in white ink on the back and 220542 on the rim. I can't wait to swap it out for the torn up Oxford that's in there now. Anyone have experience with these old Jensens? Thanks!

I've seen and played a few. Is that Jensen's cone ribbed or smooth?

Not really sure how to tell, Arjay. It's got a couple of ribs at the surround, two in the middle of the cone and three small ones near the dust cap. I'm guessing that makes it a smooth one? The whole thing, including the cardboard gasket looks new. I figured it being so old, a re-cone is probably in the not-too-distant future, but I'd rather do it to a Jensen than the old Oxford. There's a guy on Ebay selling what seems to be VERY NICE kits for 8" speakers.

Ah, semi-ribbed to damp out overly-resonant frequencies. That's common with many speakers installed in console organs. When it's time for a re-cone (and I'm not advocating that it is -- yet), opt for the fully-ribbed diaphragm.

Thanks, Arjay. As I said, it looks to be in great shape now, so it should be a big improvement over what's in there now. Thanks for the info.

Let me know your impressions of that C10Q I sent -- it should arrive mañana.

Arjay,

klunkerbill bought the 8" Jensen from me off Craiglist. It is the one I pulled from the Thomas Organ:

You and Steve identified the speakers for me from this thread:

When I pulled the old Oxford it had been repaired with masking tape and it other rips and tears all over. No wonder it sounded like crap. I pulled the old red and white plastic harness off the Jensen and had one made out of Fender cloth wire. It is now happily ensconced in the '66 VC.sounds great. Thanks a million Jerry.
