Joseph has a long standing association with the Telecaster and Fender amps going back to the late '60s. Virtually all of the James Gang's first album ("Yer Album") and much of the second ("Rides Again") he played using a Telecaster and a Vibroverb.

Yep he loves Teles and even more Fender amps. All Eagles stuff was Tweed and Blackface Fenders of varying types. And a lot of the James Gang on record was as well. I saw a Guitar World interview recently where he said that Funk #49 was a Tele (which I knew that part) through a Blackface Champ. I think most of the other songs were Vibroverb and I think it was a Tweed of some sort with a Les Paul on "Walk Away" from the third album "Thirds". Life's Been Good was a LP through a Twin Reverb and then layered in other amps according to his producer. Rocky Mountain Way of course was a Tweed Champ and LP. Eagles stuff was mainly Tweed Deluxe, Tweed Champ, and Blackface Deluxe, etc.

Ironically, when I saw the JG live at Kiel Auditorium in St. Louis Joseph was playing a LP through a pair of Super Lead Plexi stacks (Dale Peters had a similarly-sized mountain of Sunn gear). Sounded balls-out great, especially when they lit into "Lost Woman".

Yeah he used Plexis live with the 'Gang and a fuzzbox too usually for songs like The Bomber. But those little small tube amps sound massive in recordings.

The Eagles were all about Fenders. And to this day Joe uses them with the Eagles. They are really on him about his stage volume, so he's using DRRIs now and an AC15 and it's all about low wattage amps. They never used Marshalls in the studio with the Eagles, and only Don Felder used them for a very brief time live. In Don Felder's solo shows he does now post-Eagles he uses DRRIs too. I like my TRRI. It's not a vintage amp but it serves it's purpose. Might get a DRRI someday.

I love british amps as much as the next guy, but I really love Fender combos. They just work for me.

I'm sorry T2 for hijacking your thread. :(

No harm no foul...I said hijack away. I always liked Don Felders playing with the Eagles too, and when Joe joined, the two really seemed to hit it off musically and played well with eachother. I saw Felders show two years ago at Corvette Funfest over in Effingham and he was using Deluxes. His playing was excellent and it was a great show. The band he had was tight, and very good!

Joe's now out usually with a few Dr. Z amps as well.

If you haven't seen the Eagles documentary on Showtime, it's definitely worth seeing. I'm not a big fan, but interesting to see the strife and politics that drove them up and ultimately apart.

Joe does use Zs solo now. But no longer in the Eagles. They were too loud for what they wanted so he uses a DRRI and AC15 in the current day Eagles rig. The DRRI took the place of an Egnater Rebel 20 but still the AC15.

He uses Zs live and 3rd Power amps. He's used Divided by 13s a couple times as well and uses 65amps in the studio.

I loved the documentary. Part 1 was bliss for me as Hotel Cali is what made me start playing.

As I remember, Joe was one of the first Dr. Z users if not THE first. That was around 89/90 when the Hell Freezes Over Tour was first being put together. At least that is according to Michael Zaite.

Indeed! He had a SRZ65, which was the first model IIRC. It was his amp for that HFO tour. He said it's way too loud to use now but he still loves it (in an interview).

It may have been one of Zaites prototypes. Not sure. I remember something about him blowing up one of his Vox amps and said he would love to have the "Z" to replace it.

They are nice amps, a little pricy, but you kinda get what you pay for. Let's face it, if Fender hand wired all the tube amps, and put each one fully through its paces prior to shipping, the cost would easily double putting them out of most peoples reach. The 65 RI amps are good starters and if someone decides they need a better Fender, they should have real options in the Pro Tube lineup. NOT the Vibrolux. Some real hand wired amps with reliable components. That's what the gigging musician needs and wants.
